    Just what we needed

    Just what we needed
We moved into my mothers split level home last weekend, and while our existing plastic Evenflo play yard was long enough to handle the shape of her living room (which we promptly took over), it was clunky and crooked and wobbly. I actually love that play yard/gate and We’ve had it for months and months, and fully intend to keep it, but my mother wanted something a little less visible and I wanted something sturdier and easier to maneuver over. We had been finding ourselves hurdling over the gate 9,000 times a day, and my moms got a bad hip so ... time to look for something else. I found this gate pretty quickly and it had such good reviews and was such a decent price that I threw it on the cart and had it two days later. I installed it myself in about 20 minutes, between adjusting and screwing and rearranging and whatnot. I’m 16 weeks pregnant w another and I found this gate to be easy to set up despite its possible long length. The way our couches align w a wall allowed me to sort of tension-support One side of the gate and avoid drilling more holes into my mothers walls. The other side of the gate is screwed in but only one screw for each bracket. It’s kind of wedges between a fireplace and my husbands giant keyboard so again, extra holes were avoided. This thing is sturdy and not going anywhere, at least with how we have it set up. We have it extended about 9 feet and there is still two more extensions available to unfold. This thing is huge lol.The bite is nice but I think a wrought iron color or black would be helpful options for this item. There are others out there that do come in those colors but are much more expensive. This one should come in a darker color. I guess it’s always possible to spray paint it?The doorway is not centered to the gate, so it is important to know that if you plan on not using all the extensions. Somehow I was able, through several trials, to get the doorway fairly centered in the opening we blocked off. The doorway is small and a little funky to open and close constantly all day but we’ve gotten used to it and my mom is much happier getting in and out of the living room without having to lift legs and straddle the gate. I have devised a learning technique for the opening of the gate, left hand, right hand to open; right hand, left hand to close. Lol. My son has tried to tinker w the doorway mechanism but has not gotten very far with it. He’s 10 months old for reference. He is not one to hang all over Gates he knows are sturdy so once he realized this gat was going nowhere he has very little interest in it. He is beginning to be a little climber so it’s nice that there’s nothing to put toes in and climb up, as was the case with my plastic Evenflo gate.Be sure to loosen the knobs on all the extensions in order to extend it out. If you didn’t make them loose enough you’ll hear Loud clicking noise coming from that extension and it isn’t a good sound to hear. It comes w screws attached to the one of the extensions so make sure those are there. I took the brackets off the pole to screw them in, pretty much impossible otherwise.Overall, extremely happy with this purchase. We’re here for a year or so, and I fully expect this to last.Update approx. 7 months later: we still have the gate in use. My son is now 18 months old. I have come to hate this gate actually. But I say that only as a parent who is tired of hearing this effing thing clink and clank all day long, step over it all day long, readjust it to be the right shape again, etc. we moved it from closing in a play area of the living room to blocking off two stairways. My son now has free reign to run about the main level, and just blocked off from stairs. He still manages to undo the gate door if you don’t latch it entirely. He also very quickly learned the sound this annoying metal makes if you so much as brush past it so anytime someone does something w the gate (ie: try to sneak upstairs quickly, carry baby sister up while she’s sleeping) he hears it and runs over and is hella triggered by that sound. 1,000% this should have just been made of vinyl or plastic. It did not need to be cheap metal like this. We have also experienced enough rearranging of this gate to advise that if you take it apart to resize it, like take bars out or remove sections... you will never get it to be that way again. A lot of the little pieces that hold the joints together are specific to the section they’re attaching to. They may LOOK like they can be interchanged w other sections and that may be true for some, but if you try to treat this like a watch band,,,removing links,,,, think again. Get ready to hear the thin bars taking every 4 seconds, clanging on the floor, like an alan key you can never keep in your hand. For the first way we had this we folded up the excess sections and held that all in place with a heavy couch butter up against it. The other side was screwed in w The bracket. Eventually we mozied it over to the stairs and folding it wouldn’t work, we needed it drilled on both sides. Mistake. My fiancé lost 10 years of his life with this thing. We got it. But it was a lot. It will not be usable after this, pieces are everywhere in the garage and nothing fits together right anymore. So just keep that in mind. Other wise it has generally stood up to a very active little boy. He knows not to go past it, and he is over the stage of yanking it and hanging all over it. I can’t believe it never ripped out of the wall. We trip over it every day at least once. The little door becomes extremely annoying to open and close so many times so we step over it for some variety and someone always at some point trips over it and you hear the familiar clanging around. I hate this thing snd can’t wait to not need it. I am moving and the house is small and one floor. THANK GOD. It’s a good value for sure it just starts to get to you after a while lol

This fence was easy to install. We had to remove a section to make it fit right, which was covered in the instructions. (You can also add another section to make the fence even bigger, which is nice if needed.) Since our goal was to keep our dogs out of the kitchen at times, it was a better solution than purchasing gates that didn't connect to the wall and could be pushed out of place. The fence is sturdy, looks nice enough, is easy to open and clean, and is the perfect height, even keeping a large dog like my Irish Setter on the other side when we choose. We can also leave the door open, which is helpful when allowing the dogs to access our kitchen.

My 88 yr old father just moved in with me ... and with Dad came his 50lb dog. Now, I live in an apartment and I have 2 cats and I a granddaughter. This dog has, shall we say, minimal training and she's been known to nip when she feels threatened. So I kinda have my hands full with this dog.

Sadly my father and step mom adopted this dog and she would have been a project for a seasoned dog trainer.... they were definitely in over their heads with her as they are NOT dog trainers. She has always been wary of strangers and nips at their legs/etc if they turn their back on her.... bad enough with a grown adult, but if she does this with my Granddaughter or her friends, we're going to have trouble. She has almost no exposure to kids so that alone is a pretty big challenge. On top of that she's got a chase urge and hasn't been around cats in about 8 years. One of my cats is a real "scaredy cat" who hides if you look at him sideways just to complicate matters. I have a lot of work ahead of me.

When I knew I was going to have to take her on along with my father, I started researching gate options. I need something that will hold her in (thankfully she doesn't test these things though!), while allowing my father to get through with minimal struggle. His mobility is pretty compromised (he uses a Rollator) and he's a fall risk so he has to be able to get through easily. I realized I likely needed more than one gate. And I realized that until the dog was here, I really wasn't sure exactly how it would work out.

When I saw this gate/yard, I knew it was my answer to my problems. I have tons of options with this so as things (hopefully) change I can alter how we set this up. After trying multiple configurations I ended up with 4 panels at one end of the long living room to lock the dog in both when we go out (she will crap if left in a large enough space) as well as a place to put her if we have company to keep them safe while she's learning her manners. We have 3 more panels at the other end of the room to keep her in with us most of the time while allowing the cats a safe space where they can get to their litter and food. (It's ended up also being great for keeping one of my cats from escaping through my sliding door when I'm Bar-B-Quing!) The only thing I haven't used is the actual gate because my father's Rollator won't go through it, but that's ok - it may come in handy in the future. We will be moving to a house soon, so I love that I can take this with us and adapt it to the new space.

Dealing with the issue of this dog has probably caused me more stress than any other part of the move... or at least it's right up there with the more stressful parts, because I'm realistic that if she so much as nips at one of my Granddaughter's friends or even an adult that she could well be impounded and even put down. The burden of this feels bigger than the "burden" of dealing with my ailing father. So I'm really relieved that we have this in place now. It's working great! She's already learning to not chase the braver cat who comes and goes through the gap we left so he could get to the Living Room. She also seems to be ok with staying in the smaller space when we go out. I honestly couldn't have chosen a better option for my needs.

This thing is quite sturdy yet light for such a big set. There are seriously sooo many ways you can configure this thing depending on your needs. And the price, for a gate with 8 panels, is amazing. I was getting quite discouraged when I started researching for a gate because I really didn't know exactly how I would set things up and I didn't want to have to buy 4 different gates (or more) to figure out what would work.

So if you have any kind of situation where you need to separate groups of animals easily and quickly, this is your gate. If you have an awkward shaped space to cordon off, this is your gate. If you are traveling and need to have a movable pen, this is your gate. If you have someone who can't get through the standard gate that most of these things have, this is your gate. I'm going to upload photos in the next day or so to show how we have this set up for our current situation.

Although I'm a reviewer here I purchased this item at full retail price as a PERSONAL purchase and am reviewing this because I want to. I have not been asked to write a review and I have no personal connection with the seller. As usual my opinions and experiences are a real and true reflection of my experience with the product. I hope my review helps you in your purchase decisions!

5.0 out of 5 stars This Gate Set May Well Save My Father's Dog's Life.....
Reviewed in the United States on September 6, 2016

I absolutely love this product so far; it is so versatile! It is modular and easy to dissassemble/reassemble. I originally bought the Regalo pressure baby gates to fence my Basset hound pup in the kitchen while he was housetraining, and those worked well also, but the setup just wasn't working for him, as he had too much room to have accidents in. I decided to buy this and place it in an arc shape around the balcony pet door (Ideal Pet Products). The pictures I am posting are of this setup, where he has not only lots of room to move around in and luxury sleep quarters and access to food and water, but also free access to the balcony (which has the DoggieLawn/FreshPatch grass)... so I never have to worry about accidents when he is fenced in, or him having to hold it in too long. The housetraining is going great this week, and I can credit this gate for a lot of it! Before I bought this, he was in a temporary enclosure made by furniture penning him in, and he had no room to move and escaped, wreaking havoc in my apartment all day while I was away (and leaving me several gifts on the carpet!). This was an absolute lifesaver when it came. I took off 2 of the 2 foot long panels and use them outside as part of the enclosure around his grass, and the enclosure is still large enough for him to be comfortable. As others have mentioned, the gate panels themselves are sturdy metal, but the joints are plastic and can break if forced the wrong way. Does not bother me, given the price and the fact that I have a puppy, not a strong toddler or large dog. If you want a higher end comparable gate, there are others available on Amazon (try the North Gates superyard) for almost twice as much, which I've heard are more durable with metal joints, but for my purposes, this is a temporary setup. Your puppy or baby will not need this forever, hopefully, can you justify paying $100 more for it? It's up to you, if you have a strong animal/child you want to keep fenced in, but I don't need all that, and this is perfect for me. This has no pressure gate option, and I do not want to drill into the walls, so I just keep one end pinned down by furniture, and the other end connected by zip tie to the counterpart on the balcony, and I've had no escapes thus far. Puppy has not tried to knock down the gate, but even if he did, I don't have a German Shepherd, and I think it can handle his weight for now, even "partially free standing", as it is now. I use the Cloud Baby Monitor app (iPhone download) to monitor him while I am at work, and he is great, very quiet, seems content in his new home (the last is a screenshot picture from my phone on this monitor). This setup has basically saved me so many headaches from keeping a housetraining puppy while working full time.... highly recommend it to anyone. When he gets bigger, the modular nature of the panels will allow me to enlarge his area, maybe enclose off the entire dining room area, when I use it as a straight gate, instead of an arc.

BTW, I was NOT offered a free or reduced price on this product, so you know my review is ACTUALLY unbiased.

We had previously purchased a play pen for the baby, but my back and shoulders were starting to pay the price. This set-up is brilliant because there is no more leaning over and stepping over play pen walls with a baby (uncomfortable for parents and potentially dangerous for baby).

Also, the gate is really useful because it opens in both directions and has a lock. I also like that the barrier can be reconfigured, so as the baby grows, the space can be expanded and attached to the wall for additional space and security.

Even though the gate is too advanced for a small child to open it is still simple enough to do with one hand. Perfect fit for our abnormal sized doorway.

Material resistente.
