I bought this bike lock because it had insurance and two of my bikes were stolen. The only issue was I didn't know the lock was shipping from London when I bought it from a third party since it's 100 brand new. The shipper sent it requiring a signature so the deliver won't leave it and they don't call or call the manager. I might not even get the package. It actually came fairly quickly I have had to call DHL four times every day because the person doesn't dial the gate code.After much difficulty the package did come and the dhl called me. I went to the registration right away and was able to register it fine. I was a little concerned from the other reviews but luckily this finally worked out for me. So it helps to have the insurance on the bike since I had two stolen!Unfortunately one thing I did not know when buying this off amazon there is a 30 day requirement and I bought it before my move. To be eligible a customer must register online at the Kryptonite website (kryptonitelock.com) within 30 days of lock purchase. I have renters insurance but am unable to use there's since it's before 30 days I would have appreciated a note on the item before buying it!!Also because the seller was in London it's off the European insurance and you can't use that. Had the Amazon ones been avaliable I would have boughten those.

I did a bunch of research on which one of the Kryptonite and found the Kryptonite Evolution Mini-7 Bike U-Lock with Cable, Heavy Duty Anti-Theft Bicycle U Lock was the best fit for my bikes. It's easy to use, fits well on the mount and doesn't move when riding. The 13mm Hardened Max Performance Steel is more than enough to secure bicycles and the extra cable is perfect for securing the front tire as well.

Pros: Strong, secure, Anti-Theft Protection Offer; Up to $2,500 Reimbursement, Key Safe Program; Kryptonite will ship your first 2 keys for free, globally, in the event you lose them, holds in place in mount when riding, two keys included.

Cons: A bit pricey for a bicycle lock, but peace of mind isn't always inexpensive.

Compared to most other less expensive locks that I've had, this Kryptonite Evolution appears to be better crafted, has a much heavier crossbar, the cylinder engages the shackle at both ends, the keying system feels more like a real lock, and it seems to be robust. Overall, these are impressive qualities that I do appreciate and they make me feel better about locking in high crime areas. However, there are some issues: the 13mm shackle is really not much heavier than most other locks, the shackle is a little too short for many real-world applications, the keying is sticky, and the bracket mount needs improvement. For a lock at this price, these issues are a little disappointing. I guess I can live with the 13mm shackle with the understanding that it's a trade-off for lighter carrying weight. The shorter shackle is a bigger issue. Another inch would make it so much easier to lock in many situations. The keying can be frustrating to engage, but maybe it's just the individual lock that I purchased. The thing that I dislike most is the bracket mount. It's complicated to install. Once installed it's even harder to reinstall in a different location if you need to after you've trimmed the band. The bracket's bulky shape just doesn't look that great when mounted. Also on the issue of aesthetics. the color of the lock itself is a brighter orange than it looks to be on most web photos. Perhaps this was a marketing decision for brand identity. A more neutral color would look so much better on most bikes.

First. We all need to understand. Any bike can be stolen no matter what bike lock you use. A bike lock is a deterrent. Like "hey steal the bike next to me, it does not have a lock it will be easy". That said this mini-7 is quite stout. Any thief will at least need to work a little, and carry the proper tools.

This mini-7 was purchased for college student who would leave bike outside in a rack along with many many other bikes. So far so good.

Its a safety/protection device. You cannot always put a price on safety/protection. However, I sure would be nicer if it was a bit less expensive.

Pros:
- great size
- nice frame mount options
- two keys included
- optional theft insurance
- pleasing color scheme
- excellent build quality
- reputable / trusted name

Cons:
- not clear/easy, cable storage on the frame
- its small (duh its a mini, but be careful about buying this, it might be to small to lock both a wheel+frame to a solid support)
- pricey

For the last month, on occasion, I would insert the key, it would not engage and would simply spin around and around until something engaged and the lock could then be locked (or unlocked). Now it happens every time. It's very unreliable as a lock. I won't ask for a replacement -- just don't trust Kryponite anymore; I'll look elsewhere for bike security.
