6 years and counting KatelynI'm not sure why so many people have had bad experiences with this bed. We have had it close to 6 years, and it has survived 2 moves. Plus being taken apart a 3rd time to move upstairs. We only had to tighten it again one time after buying it and that was recent. Two adults sleep on it, and we are overweight. It's also been able to withstand activities which I know is a concern for a lot of overweight customers.5
Breaks apart and drops you while you sleepTiffanyNot built strong enough to withstand normal use. It eventually wiggles loose and every couple months, falls apart while we're sleeping. We've tried to keep it together with extra brackets we purchased separately but it still somehow finds a way to get loose. We're tired of this frame at this point and shopping for a new one. It also scares us half to death when it drops us in the middle of the night. We're not large people so this is a problem with the design of how the pieces fit together1
Looks great, nightmare to put together.LuBed looks great, good quality but a nightmare to put together... definitely need 2 people. And a Regular King Mattress (NON-Ikea) fits but VERY TIGHTLY making the bed is difficult.4
Bed slatsJohnJust purchased a hemmes full - however, there were no bed slats ! Please advise!!!3
Bed breaks easilyDanielThis bed broke almost immediately, the side post started coming off from the headboard. I called customer service and they said there was nothing they could do, so its just been slowly breaking apart over the course of 2 years. I've learned that apparently a bed frame can break a lot before it stops working as a bed frame, but it definitely should not be breaking at all!1
Sqeeks, and brokeJeremyHad this bed frame for about 4 years, wife and I are average size, less than 200lbs each. It has been squeaky for a few years. Now the center support beam and bracket suddenly broke while we're laying down, collapsing the center section entirely.2
Lasted through my marriage but not single lifeAliceWell, this bed lasted through my 12 year marriage with no issues but after divorcing it couldn't keep up with my single life and broke. Repeatedly. Headboard separated, footboard separated, slats fell out from the bottom. Finally time to upgrade my bed along with everything else in my life I guess.
Pro tip: this bed frame does not do well with sustained movement side to side across the bed width4
Creaks and squeaks!JenniferI really wanted to love this bed - it looks great and the headboard is nice for sitting up & reading. But it is SO LOUD! I hate it. It wakes me up when my husband rolls over or gets out of bed (and he is not a huge person- although it shouldn’t do this regardless). My husband tried oiling & greasing all of the joint areas but that didn’t help. I contacted customer service to see if they had any advice, and they said to figure out which part was making noise so they could replace it. The noise comes from everywhere (plus I don’t want to disassemble/reassemble, which is a major project, and I really doubt would help since they don’t seem to have identified the issue here). 1

Beautiful bed, but squeakyJessicaI have purchased other bed frames from IKEA and used them for years without issue, but the Hemnes frame was purchased and parts were missing. It took 2 orders through customer service to get the right parts, but once arrived, they were nearly impossible to attach. With the supports slightly attached (the best my boyfriend or I can tighten them), the frame has never stopped squeaking. It gets worse each night and is interrupting our sleep.2

Would not recommendChristineI got this bed frame and the matching bedside tables. The color is gorgeous and it really brought the room together.
Unfortunately, the design of this bed frame is quite poor and it broke after only a year and a half. The center post supporting the slats and the mattress is bolted into the headboard with no other support. The headboard is made of compressed wood slats and is not a solid piece. This totally broke apart and collapsed after a year and a half of what I would consider normal use of a bed by two average weight people. 1

7 years and still solidJoelWe bought the frame 7 years ago and it's still as solid as it was day one. I suppose there might be a squeak or two every now and then It is after all an IKEA product but nothing that disturbs our sleep. We also have a full box spring and mattress set. It looks like the people that are complaining about it squeaking have the slats. So if you want to avoid that put a box spring and a mattress on it and you should be just fine. 5
SqueekyCassandreLoved the bed at first but after about a month, every bolts started squeeking as soon as you move even just a toe. It’s become so bas it affects my husband and’s sleep, it wakes us up multiple times a night. We tried fixing it in every possible way but there’s nothing to do. I highly regret buying this bed. 1
Making so much noise when turning aroundCMaking so much noise when turning around and falling apart after 2 years.2
Falling apart like so many othersKristenLike many others have pointed out, this is a beautiful but poorly constructed bed. My footboard is also coming loose with an unstable frame. I took the mattress off and tightened everything. As soon as the mattress went back on the footboard pulled apart again. I worry for my safety sleeping in this bed. :(1
Bought this frame 11 years ago!SteveI bought this queen bed frame 11 years ago and paid $199 for it then! Very surprised it has doubled since then but so has my rent, sadly!
No squeaky noise nor flaminess at all! Yes, it was a choir to put together but no regrets with my purchase! I would be it all over again except I would probably think twice due to the price of it today at $399! Wow!5
Bed foot board pulled free. Side feel to floor.HenryI’ve had an issue with the screw in (into the particle board) pulled out and scratched the support board on the way to the floor. I tried to fix this but am at a loss as to a secure fix.

Queen mattress doesn't fit in queen bed frameWendyThe bed looks beautiful and feels sturdy, and I haven't had any problems with squeaking like other people have mentioned. But the biggest problem is that the frame is too short for a queen mattress. My mattress is wedged so tightly against the headboard and footboard that changing the sheets is a huge pain, I can barely wrestle the sheets onto the mattress between them. There's no chance of my duvet fitting between the mattress and footboard like it's supposed to, so I have to just leave it hanging over the top of the footboard, which looks weird. I would be thrilled with this bed if it was made to comfortably fit a queen mattress, but it isn't.3
