This stuff works exactly as advertised. I received a packet as a gift, so I threw it in my camp gear and forgot about it. This last week I went on an overland trip. My first night camping I found this stuff and thought I’d give it a try. I put a small pile of it on the ground, built my fire over it, and lit the stuff. It light immediately with one match, no issues at all. In less than 5 minutes, my fire was burning well. I used it the next 4 nights until it was gone. I was traveling in Oregon and some of the wood I gathered was not well seasoned, but this stuff got it going. One night on a whim I struck sparks into the Instafire with a ferro rod. It lit right up. I just ordered 30 pouches of this stuff. You will not find a better product to effortlessly light a camp fire. No paper, no shavings, no splitting logs into kindling. This product has some negative reviews ranging from doesn’t burn long to claiming it doesn’t work at all. It is not for burning as the fuel source. It burns about 5 ~ 10 minutes to get the wood ignited. Reading is fundamental, reading instructions is even more so. All I can figure is that those people got a defective pack, or should not be allowed to play with things that burn in the first place.

With regards to the product itself, I am quite impressed. I don't know what the "ROCKS" are made of but they light up right away, and the little sticks maintain a slow burn. While lit, it smelled like plain old burning wood, suggesting this product is ECO-friendly as advertised. I love this product. With regards to the packaging, three of the packets arrived partially open. I don't know if this is the result of defective packets that were overlooked while being packed for shipping or if it's just a poor seal in general. Also, they are supposed to be water proof. However, each packet has a hole cut in the top-center (I guess for display purposes), but some of these holes are cut so low on the packet that it cut right through the airtight seal, which defeats the purpose. In addition, only 29 (instead of 30) came in my box, so I suggest you count them when you receive them.
