Well, it is safer
As you could see I was hoping this would work with my telescoping ladder. As some other reviews stated that u-bolts were too long as they fit for a normal ladder with about 4-in rails. I just added a three by three which I had handy and just about right size maybe would have liked it a little longer but still fits. Without this product I was terrified to get back on the ladder from the roof as it was totally unstable. Getting up and on the roof was not a problem, but like I said getting back on I saw my life flash in front of me. In conclusion, as you could see from the pictures, I actually took a picture from me on the roof, getting back on to come down with increased stability and decreased fear. The only issue I have is with taking this stability device off and on, as I use this ladder mainly inside to change my AC filters and convenience is the issue.

Due to lots of rain this spring I had to clean/inspect the front most gutter of my home. Considering that the gutters were newly installed in 2021 I wanted to avoid leaning my 20' extension ladder against them. At half the cost of a competitors offering which could be found at one of the box stores, this device was easy to attach to the top of my ladder with the included U bolts and fortunately did not need a shim as some others have experienced. It added a little more weight to the top of the ladder but the resulting increase in stability of standing on the ladder just over the top of the gutters was well worth the investment.

My house has a wide overhang and a slate roof. The safest way onto the slate roof for inspection and repairs is via the flat roof over the back porch, where new gutters were recently installed. This standoff works well to keep the ladder off the gutter on the flat roof and it was inexpensive compared to some of the others.

I carefully followed the attachment instructions to put the u-bar under the top ladder rung and on the outside of the ladder side piece so it can't slide off the top of the ladder. However, with this method, it would be possible for the u-bar (and stand-off) to slide down to the next ladder rung. I mean it's tight and feels secure, but I wonder about this. Am considering purchasing a second set of u-bars to attach around the stand-off and the top rung of the ladder. 4 stars because I think it should have an attachment to make sure the stand-off cannot go up or down.
