Short Shelf Life, But Otherwise Good
The first few uses I was impressed. Let's just say we found lots of reasons to use these food dyes. I need them for things like icing cakes and cupcakes for birthdays, otherwise I end up at Whole Foods paying a good $35. We used all three colors with pretty good results. We made map-water blue, a pale green, and light-light-light red in buttercream. The downside, and what I later found out by coming back to read the reviews, was that the dyes have a very short shelf life. Like a few short months. The dyes start separating (our red and yellow was already on the verge when we got it, turns out) and you won't get the same vibrancy. Now, here's the saddest part. My daughter wanted a carrot cake for her birthday. So I thought, yeah, I can use white chocolate to make the carrot decorations. Got the white chocolate melted, got a decent but very pale green, added a bit more...and seized the chocolate. I went ahead and tried for orange (using the red and yellow of course) and was even more let down by how fast that seized. I managed to eke out a few passable carrots and used the green to write her name and age. This product is for you if you are so tired of Whole Foods not sharing all their food dyes with you. I mean, why don't they carry dyes?? Why? Anyway, this does the job you'll need it for as long as you need it done quickly. For people like me who have children who can't comprehend why they can't have carrot decorations on their carrot cake, the price tag isn't a hindrance.

We recently learned that my daughter is sensitive to artificial food color, as it can cause behavior and mood issues. In switching to more natural options, I bought India Tree natural decorating colors to add color to baked items such as cakes and cookies. We just used it to color white frosting for her birthday cupcakes, and were very pleased with the results. The colors were vivid, and I noticed little change to the flavor (In other naturally-colored products we've tried, we can often taste whatever was used to make the color.). Do not expect a bright blue; the blue came out more of a grey-lavender shade, and there was a hint of flavor to the blue, though not unpleasant. I personally liked the color, but it wasn't very blue. I found that both the Red and Yellow were bright and flavor-less. India Tree is the only natural decorating color I have been able to find, so I can't really compare it to any other brands, but I'm very happy that it's available so we have the option of food color without artificial colors.

I read many of the reviews before purchasing this and they were certainly mixed reviews. I’m super happy with the colors though next time I will whip it into my frosting because it did make it slightly runny with the amount I needed to achieve the colors I wanted using Russian piping tips. I think if I had used regular tips this would’ve been a non issue.

I was concerned and called the company because there is no seal on the individual bottles of color and wanted to confirm this was in fact how they came.

I think it’s also super important that you shake the heck out of these before you use it because I had some pretty severe separation. It all came together with about 2 mins of shaking for each color.

Over all I’m very happy and will definitely be buying this again when I run out!

As a family, we stay away from artificial food dyes, so when I heard of these India Tree dyes I was so excited as the colors are from foods! They are more gel like than your traditional, artificial food coloring sets, which I like! There is definitely less chance for spilling, and less mess! They work very well, but as with any natural dyes, you have to use a little more than what you might be accustomed to using. I have not had an issue with it making icing and things runny like I would if I were to use the same amount of artificial dyes. The colors are a little more muted and natural looking, but I prefer that anyway. For those looking for vibrancy, I have still achieved vibrant colors, but they are not like the almost neon colors you will see with the artificial dyes.

Pros - Natural, from vegetables and not synthetic. Doesn't alter flavor. Works well. I was trying to make purple and got a red-leaning mauvish purple, which was fine.

Cons - Small bottles. Products coagulate, but do remix. Doesn't give an intense color, more pastel. Need to use quite a bit.

Let me reiterate. I made a three-tiered wedding cake with ONE package of this product and got a mid-toned purple. It will not give you the vivid colors of fondant or synthetic coloring but it does work well. Also, when adding blue, ANY color in the frosting that leans yellow (butter cream?) will make the blue color muddy and greyed out.

I've used these a few times and I don't understand why all the bad reviews, unless the product varies drastically from batch to batch.

A customer requested dye free coloring for her sons cookies so I figured I'd give this brand a try. The red is not red, it's more like varying shades of pink which can go as deep as magenta. The yellow coloring, like the "red", gave the icing a thick syrup like consistency. The actual tint of yellow was nice as long as it was kept light. The more you add, the worse the consistency becomes. The blue was great, I actually liked the shade and it didn't effect the icing much as far as consistency goes.
Maybe this works better with buttercream, but for Royal Icing, it was a disappointment. I blew out 3 bags with couplers and tips trying to pipe the Icing. I'd rather skin a cat than use this product again.

I love that there is a natural alternative for food coloring. I’ve only used the red, but it was great and easy to use. Worked well for what I bought it for. It’s pale and more of a pink, but I knew that before ordering after reading the reviews. It was perfect for my Valentine cookies and for my white chocolate melts I used in my heart candy molds. Love it! Storing in the fridge as others have suggested for longer shelf life. Love that it’s all natural and feel so much better about it being in the treats I make for my kids and grandkids!

Product is not as per my expectation.. Quite possible i had wrong expectations..
With image i thought the size of product larger but it is very small.
It can be used to color cream only and cannot be used to color the cake.. Incase u want to make layers of cake with different color.
They are natural colors and hence would prefer this always for creams and icing.
