I purchased this vacuum to replace the Black & Decker one that stopped working. I Loved the vacuum and it was very convenient. This one is just a newer model. Love the vacuum, but don't like the new charging method. My previous B&D vacuum had a cord that pluged into the handle and you could hang it on the wall out of the way. Was perfect. This new model sits on a dishlike unit that plugs into the wall. Because vavuum sits it's tall finding a shelf to put the vacuum is difficult. And No I'm not going to take it apart every time I use it. My husband suggested I put it on a table in our livingroom. Not Happening! I was going to send it backfor that reason, but decided to keep it and figure out where to put it. Maybe I'll install a small shelf on the wall. I'm 74 and I guess I'm just going to have to adapt to new technology. Black & Decker makes excellent products with reasonable prices.

After spending wayyyy too much time trying to figure out what kind of Dustbuster to buy, I went with this one.

Mostly, I wanted a Dustbuster to clean my car. Hauling out the big vacuum is never fun, but with 3 little kids messes happen. I also thought it would be nice to have on hand to clean up quick household messes and spiders/insects.

I didn’t want to spend too much money, I wanted something that would last, that had power, and well, did a good job. This mostly does the job, but it’s not perfect. While a few things did surprise me, others were more of the “ah, the other reviewers were right” moments.

Top things to note:
- At 16v, this has good sucking power, but not “quite” as good as I was expecting. Sometimes it takes a few times going over a spot to pick up stubborn dirt, like sand.
- the nozzle doesn’t fit into tight spaces in cars well, such as between seats, which makes it difficult to thoroughly deep clean.
- other reviews had mentioned how loud this is, and I’m here to reiterate that this is uncomfortably loud. My ears can start ringing if I use it for more than short bursts at a time, best if ear protection is used for longer periods. This is not something you use by your pet, while people are sleeping, or generally anyone bothered by very loud noises.
- battery life lasts approximately 15 minutes when used almost constantly. For car cleaning, this means I need about two full charges to thoroughly clean my car.
- not ideal for bugs. They don’t die when sucked up, and unless you want to empty the canister with live bugs in them (no thanksss), you have to wait for them to die or crawl out again. I don’t use it for insects anymore.

Overall, I do recommend it, but it has room for improvements!

My Dustbuster is now a year and a half old, and it still performs perfectly. It's lightweight but powerful enough for many applications. If you are old enough to remember or happened to inherit first generation DBs, fear not, this is a different animal! This one holds a charge long enough for its purpose (10-15 mins. for me) and easily sucks up dust, pet hair, sand, etc. Things to note:

• It is NOT a shop vacuum; I think product failure results from misuse. It isn't designed for industrial use--it's a DUSTbuster.
• You need to keep it clean, not just the containment tank but the filter and pre-filter. After dumping the contents of the tank you should take out the filter and pre-filter and wash them. I do this at least every third time after dustbusting but usually after every use. Small particles like kitty litter and sand can clog the holes of the gray pre-filter so I use a pin to poke through the holes if washing hasn't dislodged them. You can gently wash and reuse the fabric filters.
◇ TIP ◇ Occasionally, after removing the nozzle, tank, and filters, I wipe off the motorized base, take it outdoors, hold it away from myself, and switch on the machine for a few seconds. A burst of light dust comes out of the motor/charger end, so I believe it's a useful step.
• You can purchase replacement filters for your DB and will need to do so as the non-woven filter fabric breaks down over time with repeated use and cleaning. This is no different than needing to buy new bags for bagged vacuums. B&W and unbranded filters are available. Unbranded filters are cheaper but don't fit as well and may void the warranty.
• As noted in other reviews, be sure to securely lock in each part of the machine after cleaning. You should hear an audible "click" from the depressable buttons that serve as locking mechanisms on the tank and nozzle. Lock failure occurs often when repositioning the nozzle, so be aware and listen for that click when reattaching and adjusting the angle of the nozzle.
• Lastly, though I love my DB, it's noisy! Held at certain proximities to my ears it's almost painful. I recommend ear protection. The spec sheet rates the little fellow at 75 decibels.

I rated this DB at 5 stars because giving it only 4 stars seemed unfair, but 4.5 is my honest rating.
