I bought my first Miele in 2001 when I moved into my new home. My mother owned Eureka canisters, so that's how I was familiar with this model. Twenty-one years later, and the Miele that I bought for the exorbitant amount of $850 in 2001, is still working. Only time I've had the vacuum in the repair shop was for the cord windup. Otherwise, motor, suction, tools, are as good as new. Works perfectly.
I bought a Dyson V-10 in 2018 because I thought the stick vacuum would be easier to take up and down the stairs, and had read about its vaunted suction. But, with the Dyson, you need special screwdrivers to take it apart for cleaning and maintenance. The canister size, when full, would back up into the filter and stop the suction. Which meant you were constantly cleaning the machine, and I found myself using the Miele to clean the Dyson.
When the Dyson battery died, ordered a new one. Only to discover that the screwhead threads in the Dyson were completely obliterated, and I couldn't remove the battery. Decision time, vacuum repair or a 2nd Miele. No contest.
The Miele cannot be beat IMHO for suction. This 2022 version is different from my 2001 in these ways: more quiet, slightly longer connecting hose, the vacuum tubes are slightly heavier and the handle more ergonomic. The tools have remained the same and are great for cleaning the drier vent and screen and under the fridge. Easy to clean under furniture and appliances. The vacuum bags are deceiving because they hold a lot more dirt and dust than you think, far more than the Dyson ever did.
And w/2 German Shepherds -- it's all about hair, non-stop. Not to mention 2 Boston Terriers who make their own unique messes. Whether you have tile floors, carpeting, or wood, this is a great vacuum. The canister is not that heavy and easy to pull around. If clean is your thing, this is your vacuum.

Ok, after owning a whining, loud Kenmore Progressive for 16 years that is louder then a jet taking off, I finally decided to upgrade. I went to my local vac store where the only man working didn't really seem interested in the fact that I was ready to buy one of these puppies, that day. Brick & mortar. What can I say. I watch a couple reviews on the net and after thinking it over a few days, pulled the trigger & ordered one. Amazons price was very reasonable. They put spinner wheels on this, so it slips & slides every which way, just like a piece of luggage. I like the feature. The motor is very quiet in the lower suction range and the suction power even in quiet mode is impressive, in part no doubt to the new bag in it. Put it on a higher suction mode to work the carpet attachment. Figure out which one works best for you depending on pile height. An electric one would be much better, but that would create the need for electric wiring on the hose. I only have two area rugs, the rest of my house is hardwood. The floor brush is about 12'' wide and allows you to really cover floor area in a hurry. I think the loudest noise comes from the suction at the floor brush. Accessory tools are very easy to interchange, just listen for the 'click'. Picture shows the floor & carpet attachement where they attach on the vacuum, the rest are under a little door. I do wish there was an on/off switch on the handle, but again, that would require electric wiring on the hose. So foot switch it is. I find myself supporting my self with the wand/hose to keep from falling over, as you have to raise your foot about 7'' to touch the switch. The cord rewind is the same way, hold on to something. But I am elderly so I try & be extra careful. A younger person may not have that issue. I know the more expensive models come with an electric carpet attachment, but decided I dint need one, so i saved a few hundred $$. The 4 stars are only because of the carpet attachment, otherwise, 5 it would be. I would definitely recommend.
