I didnt want to buy the cheapest rear rack nor the most pricey one. This one has a great weight capacity and is fairly light, the aluminum construction is nicely welded up and id buy again from this maker. From an engineering standpoint, it has 1: function and fitment (i strapped an igloo " ice cube " cooler on it n rode to beach, like 12 lbs) more than what i needed. 2: price-point : it was a few bucks more than bottom of the barrel one here on amazon but carries more capacity, meaning its better built. 3: it wont rust, aluminum doesn't rust like those cheap steel ones that weigh a ton.

After reading other reviews I was concerned about fit but it is fine for my 2015 Giant Escape 1 M. The official specs are at:

http://www.axiomgear.com/products/racks/journey-racks/transit/

But they are misleading as they measure the stays to the top of the rack (355 mm) a rather useless measurement I think, rather than the bottom of the rack (348 mm). But the stays gave me 7/8" clearance above my 700 cc tire and that's what matters.

I had to spread the stays but the whole job took less than half an hour; it looks great, nice hardware, very sturdy, and no rattles or noises.

But most importantly for me is the fact that at 550 g it is the lightest affordable rack on the market with good reviews. I could only find a couple of other racks that were lighter but they cost at least three times more and had non-traditional designs and/or poor reviews.

Axiom Transit Rack was delivered in great condition. Easy install if your bike have bras-ons or your tires don't rub. I had to use frame clamps which did not come with the rack. I am happy with the construction and weight of the rack. I wish it came with the additional mounting hardware which used to come with their products. Nice light weight and sturdy rack.

The rack did not fit on my bike frame and 700C tire.
Reviewed in the United States on November 4, 2015
First, I'll note that the rack fits over my 700 x 38c tire and my fender. Prior posters have had some discussion about this. The only hangup was that the reflector bracket would not work with the fender. I use lights on my belt and hat, so it's not an issue for me. Other than that, the rack came on time and complete. It had no directions. I have installed my own racks several times in the past and did not need instructions. I imagine even a newbie could install this simple unit, but it would be reassuring to have some help and the instructions might be needed.

The rack has a high capacity (60 kg). I have not loaded it that heavily, but I use two kitty-litter buckets as panniers. I have filled those with groceries more than once already and seen no sign of trouble. That amount of groceries weighs about 30 to 40 pounds (13 to 18 kg), and that is above the weight limits of most other racks in this price range.

I have noticed that the paint scratches easily. It's wise to be careful about that if appearance matters to you.

Installing a bike rack should only take 20 minutes but I had to spend a few hours to get this one to fit on my bike. For reference, my bike is a 58cm Jamis quest sport road bike. The first difficulty was securing the lower stays. The vertical supports on the rack are about two inches narrower than the spacing between my lower eyelets. I had no choice but to forcibly spread the metal legs to get them in place. Doing this was somewhat clumsy since I had to keep the metal legs apart, hold the rack in place and screw the bolts into the eyelets all at once. The next challenge was fastening the top of the rack to the frame. The problem here was that the rack barely cleared my brake calipers. See those two shiny flat metal rods sticking out from the top of the rack? Those are what secure the rack to the frame. I had to bend one of those metal rods with clamp and a pair of pliers to get it around my break calipers. Again, this was clumsy and probably undermined the integrity of the frame.

In the end, I managed to securely install this rack on my bike. It took a few hours, a flat head screw driver, a pair of pliers, a hex screw driver and a lot of elbow grease. The clumsy installation process resulted in a few scratches on frame but that's my fault. I would not recommend this rack to anyone. You would be much better off buying a rack that has adjustable components.

Although these lacked instructions explaining that the two connection struts can/need to be bent/bowed for installation.

This is amazing, a lot lighter than others available and well priced. simple and effective! Also acts as some what of a mud guard.
