The Roborock Q5+ robot vacuum.

Roborock Q5 robot vacuum — Also Great
Amazon deal price: $260; street price: $430

Similar to the Roborock Q5+ listed above, the Q5 has better mapping, easier app navigation, a longer battery life, and more reliable voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant in comparison with our top pick. However, it doesn’t self-empty like the Q5+ version does, and we’ve found that it’s not as durable or repairable as other robot vacuums. So why buy it? Two reasons: First, it tends to be significantly cheaper than the Q5+. Second, its laser-navigation system allows it to wheel around quicker than most robot vacuums. So if you want a cheap robot vac that finishes the job faster, this one is worth considering.

Eufy Robovac Max 11S Robot Vacuum — Budget Pick
Walmart deal price: $120; street price: $190

What we like: One of our budget robot vacuum picks. Quiet, nimble, and affordable. Works best in small spaces with bare floors and short-pile rugs. Rarely gets stuck. A basic, bump-and-run bot.

Other things to know: The big downside is that it doesn't seem to be built to last for more than a couple of years on average, and we’ve heard about plenty of unrepairable breakdowns that happen even sooner. Struggles with debris in rugs, especially softer, thicker types. Clip the on-page coupon at Amazon.

Man cleaning with the Shark Stratos Upright Vacuum (Pet Version).
Photo: Shark

This is the pet version of the best upright vacuum we tested under $500. It offers excellent cleaning power and ease of handling, and the self-propelling brush roll works well on all types of flooring.

Many Amazon reviewers have reported brush-roll issues, which the company doesn’t cover under the limited five-year warranty. The pet version comes with a HairPro Self-Cleaning Pet Power Brush.

The Blueair Blue Pure 311i Max Air Purifier.

Blueair Blue Pure 311i Max air purifier — Upcoming Pick
Amazon deal price: $160; street price: $210
Best Buy deal price: $160; street price: $210

An upcoming pick in our guide to the best air purifiers, this exceptional, energy-efficient unit delivers great cleaning performance and purification for medium-size rooms (which we define as 400 square feet or less), at a price notably less than that of other purifiers of the same quality. It also offers two methods of control, either via buttons on the device itself or through the Blueair app.

Blue Pure 211i Max air purifier — Upcoming Pick
Best Buy deal price: $245; street price: $310

This is another upcoming pick in our air purifier guide; we recommend it for larger spaces of 500 square feet or more. When used on its high and high-medium settings, the Blue Pure 211i Max reduced our test room’s smoke levels by more than 99.9%. Its helpful features include an air-quality sensor and child-lock controls.

The Bissell Little Green Portable Carpet Cleaner.
Photo: Marki Williams

Our top pick for the best portable carpet and upholstery cleaner is ideal for people who have pets or kids and who find themselves frequently dealing with small but gross messes. In our testing, this Bissell cleaner’s handheld suction brush completely removed wine and chocolate stains when used with a cleaning solution and some hot tap water. We’ve also seen it suck up cat puke from a couch, muddy footprints from a carpet, and (as one staffer can attest) “years’ worth of on-the-go meal remnants ground into my car seats,” all without leaving a trace of yuck behind. Its water tank is difficult to clean, however, and its one-year warranty is shorter than the warranties for its competitors.

Uproot Clean Pro pet hair remover — Staff Favorite
Amazon deal price: $17; street price: $24

The coarse, wooly upholstery that lines the floors and trunks of most vehicles is, unfortunately, great at trapping pet hair—so great that all the handheld vacuums we tested in our car vacuum guide didn’t do a sufficient job of sucking it all up. To remove fur in those situations, we instead recommend this manual pet-hair removal tool. Just keep in mind that it’s too rough to use on clothing and bedding.

ChomChom Pet Hair Remover — Gift Pick
Amazon deal price: $20; street price: $25

We recommend this pet-hair remover in multiple gift guides for those with pets and people who love to clean. Portable, reusable, and easier to maneuver than a vacuum cleaner, it removes fur buildup, dirt, and other debris between deep cleans.

We’ve seen deals on this tool often—it has dropped lower twice this year.

What we like: Our runner-up pick for the best dishwasher detergent. Cleaned nearly as well as our top pick in testing. Equipped with liquid detergent boosters designed to cut grease and enhance shine.

Other things to know: Contains dyes, whereas our top pick does not. Has a strong “fresh” scent, but it neutralized food odors well in our tests. Slightly more expensive than recent lows.

What we like: A gift pick we like for people who love to clean. Moist wipes are strong enough for cleaning sticky and gross kitchen and bathroom surfaces. Sleek, refillable dispenser looks good in plain view.

Other things to know: Select "subscribe & save" option to get a 15% discount and then use code GREEN20 at checkout to bring total to $40 including shipping. Cancel subscription at any time. Sitewide sale includes other wipes, like flushable bathroom wipes.
