House Tour | Sean McNanney

The textile designer invites T into his Brooklyn apartment.

[MUSIC PLAYING] Hi, come on in. When you step in my apartment, I want it to feel like you’re not in Williamsburg anymore. It’s a railroad-style apartment. It’s not like it’s a house where there’s like big rooms. This is the kitchen. The kitchen is like a 3-D wallpaper. A number of the things in the room I took from my grandmother to decorate in my own room as a kid. A Victorian shaving mirror. A mosque lamp from Istanbul. 1970s flasher switch plate. “Queer Stories About Queer Animals.” The dining room. Antique carpet found in a garbage can on Bedford Avenue. I used to tell my sisters this was our grandma, growing up. One of my embroideries. The bedroom. I found these antique French wooden panels at an auction for fifty dollars. This is the yellow room. I describe the feel of this room as Nancy Lancaster meets Auntie Mame. A few of my snuffboxes. A Biedermeier chair I upholstered in my fabric. Curio coffee table filled with family mementos. A portrait I took with my stepmom in Mongolia. Thanks for coming.
