Raducanu has won and Centre Court erupts for the Brit!

A poor double fault from Sakkari, who was erratic today, gave Raducanu match point...

Before the Greek slapped a forehand wide to give the 21-year-old a 6-2, 6-3 win.

Raducanu will face qualifier Lulu Sun, of New Zealand, in the fourth round.

Project Federer begins now.

Sakkari on the ropes

Big noise on Centre Court as Raducanu consolidates her break to lead by a set and 3-1.

She's in control of the match and Sakkari, who's struggled this year, is on the ropes.

A break early in the second set and Raducanu now leads ninth seed Maria Sakkari 2-1, serving to make it 3-1.

If she holds her serve four more times she'll be into the next round.

Another match going on Court 1

After the last scheduled match on Court 1 was wrapped up as Gauff beat Kartal, one of the women's matches that had been suspended due to rain has moved to one of the only two show courts with a roof.

Dayana Yastremska (28) of Ukraine vs Donna Vekic of Croatia. Vekic took the first set 7-6(4). The second, starting at 0-0, is now being played on Court 1.

More updates, of course, as they come. This is one of only two matches being played currently because of the rain.

Raducanu favourite to progress

Emma Raducanu has won 93 of the 101 matches where she has taken the first set.

Only won of those eight losses came at a Grand Slam. A brilliant conversion rate.

So positive signs for the Brit!

Brit Emma Raducanu, playing on Centre Court, saved numerous break points in that first set after breaking ninth seed Maria Sakkari of Greece early on.

The 21-year-old broke Sakkari again towards the end of the set and served out to win the set 6-2.

The home crowd liked that, too.

Coco Gauff: 'I played really well'

Speaking after the match, Coco Gauff said: "I thought I played really well. She played a high level, especially in first set. It's been a great tournament for her, especially at home and I hope she will be back for more in the future.

"She was playing at a high level and wasn't giving me much to work with. She mixes up her variety and didn't let me settle. I felt I was going for the right shots but just missing. Eventually I found them and was able to win."

Describing the atmosphere when facing a home player at Wimbledon, she added: "This is my first time playing a British player here so I was little nervous because I knew you'd be for her, which is understandable.

"Being an American I know how it feels when I'm at the US Open. When I play at home it gives me an edge. Thankfully you guys were pretty nice to me so that helped. Honestly, playing in front of the British crowd is great. You're always respectful but engaged."

Gauff to play another American up next

Coco Gauff's reward for beating Kartal is a fourth-round match against 19th seed Emma Navarro.

She said: "Last time I played Emma was earlier this year. She's a great player and has had a great tournament.

"It's her first season on grass and she's already in the fourth round but hopefully if I play good tennis it will go my way."

Wow, what a second (and final) set from Coco Gauff.

She has bagelled British qualifier Sonay Kartal, winning the match 6-4, 6-0.

Kartal only won eight points in that second set, and five of them were in the penultimate game.

Coco Gauff just broke British qualifier Sonay Kartal for the third time in this second set.

She leads 5-0 and is serving for the match.

Profile: How Tiafoe ran Alcaraz so close

At the 2022 U.S. Open, Frances Tiafoe was at the peak of his powers, and took Carlos Alcaraz to the brink of defeat.

Entering Wimbledon 2024, Tiafoe was in a slump, and that kind of performance looked beyond him.

Instead, he took Alcaraz to the edge once again, announcing his return to the world, even in defeat.

The Athletic's Matthew Futterman has the background on his slump, and how he climbed out. Read it below.

Imperious Gauff breaks again

Coco Gauff is such a great player in full flight.

She's just won her fifth game in a row, double break to the American, she leads Kartal 3-0 in the second.

Exactly the start Sonay Kartal didn't want.

She's broken to love by Coco Gauff in the first game of the second set.

If Gauff holds her serve from here on in, she will take the match, too.

Report: Alcaraz escapes Tiafoe in thriller

Carlos Alcaraz nearly crashed out at Wimbledon on Friday, at the hands of a familiar foe.

The defending champion came back from a two-sets-to one deficit against Frances Tiafoe, who pushed him to the edge two years ago at the U.S. Open and nearly knocked him over on Centre Court.

Again, he didn’t quite pull it off. World No. 3 Alcaraz came alive, running away with the fourth-set tiebreak and the fifth set to prevail 5-7, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6(2) 6-2.

“He’s so tough,” Alcaraz said of Tiafoe, currently ranked No. 29. He hasn’t been tough in a while, but he sure was Friday.

Two close holds

Raducanu was 15-40 down, two break back points for Maria Sakkari, but the Brit has held on. She leads 2-0. Plenty of drama so far!

And Kartal bravely took Gauff to deuce but the second seed converted the second set point, taking it 6-4.

Two breaks...

...with contrasting fortunes for the Brits.

Emma Raducanu has broken Sakkari first up following a double fault, and will serve to make it 2-0 in the first set.

While, frustratingly for Sonay Kartal, she has been broken back immediately by Gauff, who leads 5-4. A lovely forehand winner down the line from Gauff set that up.

Gauff is serving for the first set.

Raducanu begins on Centre Court

And another Brit, the unseeded Emma Raducanu, is facing ninth seed Maria Sakkari on Centre Court.

Remarkably, it's the first time Raducanu is playing a seeded player at Wimbledon.
