Javier Aguirre has been appointed head coach of Mexico for a third time with former national team captain Rafael Marquez as his assistant — with an agreement in place for Marquez to take over in 2026.
The Mexican Football Federation (FMF) confirmed on Monday that 45-year-old Marquez will serve as Aguirre’s right-hand man for the first two years before succeeding him as head coach after the 2026 World Cup.
