Hansi Flick and Thiago Alcantara have met to discuss a possible role on Barcelona’s coaching staff.

The former Spain international, 33, announced his retirement from the game on Monday following his exit from Liverpool at the end of last month.

Flick is keen to have the former midfielder as part of his backroom team and has met him in Barcelona for talks. Thiago is now set to consider the proposal.

Flick, the former Bayern Munich head coach, replaced Xavi at Camp Nou in May.

Thiago made 101 first-team appearances for Barcelona after graduating through their La Masia academy.

He won 10 trophies during his time at the club and was a key member of the league title-winning sides in the 2010-11 and 2012-13 seasons, while he also helped the club win the Champions League in 2011.

“I will always be willing to give back what I have been given and I am grateful for the time. I have enjoyed it,” Thiago said to announce his retirement.

“Thank you, football. And to all who accompanied me and made me a better player and person along the way. See you soon, Thiago.”
