Leverkusen to begin Bundesliga title defence with trip to Gladbach

Bayer Leverkusen will begin their defence of the Bundesliga against Borussia Monchengladbach.

Xabi Alonso’s team, who finished the 2023-2024 domestic season unbeaten, will travel to Borussia-Park on August 23 for the first game of the new league campaign.

Leverkusen, who also won the DFB Pokal last season, will face Stuttgart in the German Super Cup the week before, on August 17 at the BayArena.

Elsewhere during the Bundesliga’s first weekend, Bayern Munich, now under head coach Vincent Kompany, will travel to Wolfsburg. Newly promoted St. Pauli will host Heidenheim, and Borussia Dortmund, who replaced head coach Edin Terzic over the summer with Nuri Sahin, will face Eintracht Frankfurt.

Early season highlights include Leverkusen facing RB Leipzig on Matchday 2 and their trip to Allianz Arena to face Bayern on the last weekend of September.
