Canada’s Tajon Buchanan sustains broken leg in training

Canada winger Tajon Buchanan was taken to hospital after sustaining a broken leg in training on Monday.

Canada Soccer confirmed Buchanan had sustained a lower leg injury in training on Tuesday and had been taken to a local hospital for treatment and further evaluation.

The 25-year-old was transported to hospital in an ambulance and the training session was ended following the injury.

A Canada Soccer statement added: “We will provide updates as more information becomes available.”

It was later confirmed Buchanan had suffered a broken tibia, the larger of the two bones in the lower leg.

Buchanan has featured in all three of Canada’s group stage matches at Copa America, starting the opening defeat to Argentina and being utilised from the bench during the victory over Peru and draw with Chile.

Canada qualified for the knockout stages after finishing second in Group A. They play Venezuela in the quarter-finals on Friday.

Buchanan has been capped 25 times by Canada since making his senior debut in 2021, scoring four goals.

He joined Inter Milan from Club Bruges in January and made 10 Serie A appearances in the second half of last season, scoring once.
