Jim Levy, a former record industry executive, met up with four programmers of Atari. These four programmers wanted more recognition and money for their hard work. Jim Levy and these four Atari programmers: David Crane, Alan Miller, Bob Whitehead, and Larry Kaplan co-founded Activision, with Jim Levy as the CEO. Jim Levy's strategy was to promote their programmers like rock stars. This philosophy worked, and it brought Activision to a multi-million dollar company.
This would not last forever, as video games started to involve more than one person, it became tougher to keep this strategy. In 1986, Jim Levy resigned his position because his style of recognition became less effective, and Bruce Davis took over as CEO of Activision.
