July 28: CF leaves with right index finger contusion
When Doyle, a prime candidate for National League Player of the Month, struck out against Erik Miller to end the first inning in Sunday's loss to the Giants, he angrily threw a towel against the training kit in the dugout. But he was too close to the kit and hit his finger against it. He was removed as a precaution. X-rays revealed no further damage.

Doyle hopes the finger heals quickly and he can enjoy being away from San Francisco -- where the Rockies have lost 12 straight games after being swept in four. A three-game set opens against the Angels at Anaheim on Tuesday.

"It'll be a good reset for us to go into Anaheim and try to get a series win there," he said.

July 27: Recalled RHP from Triple-A Albuquerque; selected the contract of RHP from Triple-A Albuquerque; recalled RHP from Albuquerque as the 27th man for doubleheader; designated LHP for assignment
Blach, 33, has served the Rockies as a starter and a reliever while being on and off the Major League roster for the last three seasons. This season, Blach was 3-6 with a 6.36 ERA in 18 games, including 10 starts. Manager Bud Black said if Blach doesn’t latch on with another team, the Rockies would be open to his returning to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Bird, 28, became a trusted reliever last season, when he made 70 appearances (3-3, 4.33 ERA). However, he missed time with right elbow inflammation, then struggled with strike zone consistency before being optioned on July 10. The Rockies hope Bird (1-1, 6.26 in 22 games this season) becomes a key late-game reliever again.

Curtiss, 31, is with the Rockies for the second time this season. He gave up two runs and recorded one out against the Phillies on May 24. At Albuquerque, Curtiss had a 4.03 ERa with 30 strikeouts and 12 walks in 32 relief appearances.

July 27: Traded RHP to the Brewers for RHP and Minor League RHP
Mears, 27, was 1-4 with a 5.56 ERA in 41 games with the Rockies while being used in various roles. His fastball and power breaking pitches had multiple contending teams looking at him for late-game duty.

Blalock, 23, made his Major League debut on June 20 with a scoreless inning against the Padres. He spent the rest of the season at Double-A Biloxi, where he was 5-2 with a 4.08 ERA in 16 starts, tallying 27 walks and 64 strikeouts.

Herrera, 20, was 9-1 with a 2.91 ERA, 23 walks and 77 strikeouts in 16 games (nine starts) this season with Single-A Carolina and High-A Wisconsin. More >>

Rockies manager Bud Black said on July 26 that Jones has reported to the team’s complex in Scottsdale, Ariz.

RHP (right elbow inflammation)
Expected return: TBD
Placed on the IL on July 22 (retroactive to July 19), Márquez is under a plan of playing catch the first two days in San Francisco, and throwing a bullpen session the morning of the final game. Caution will continue.

Pitching coach Darryl Scott said, “Really, what would be the point in pushing through something right now? Let’s do the right thing, take this year to get him healthy, get him out there and finish the season so that he is full go into Spring Training and the season next year with no concerns.” (Last updated: July 26)

60-DAY INJURED LIST

LHP (Tommy John surgery, shoulder discomfort)
Expected return: Second half of the season
Gilbreath joined High-A Spokane for his second rehab appearance on July 26. Starting against Eugene, Gilbreath gave up two runs on one hit and two walks, and tallied two strikeouts before leaving after 29 pitches. Gilbreath began his rehab assignment by facing the Cubs in an Arizona Complex League game on July 23. RHP (Tommy John surgery)
Expected return: Possibly late this season
Manager Bud Black said Senzatela will “possibly face some hitters on this road trip” -- a 10-gamer that started July 26.

“He’s going to throw to our hitters in Anaheim, and again in San Diego,” Black elaborated. “Then from there, a potential rehab assignment. We thought all along that he was going to pitch this year in September. It might be a little bit before that, though.” (Last updated: July 23)

RHP (right forearm)
Expected return: 2025
Bard, who tore the meniscus in his left knee while playing catch prior to Spring Training and underwent surgery, had a setback rehabbing and had season-ending surgery on his right arm on May 1. The Rockies placed him on the 60-day IL to add left-hander Ty Blach to the active roster.

Bard, 38, is in the final year of a two-year, $19 million contract. Bard has said he would like to return after a year of rehab, but he will see how he feels and consult his family before committing to pitching again. Read more >> (Last updated: May 1)
