A truly spectacular sequel that reaches previously unthinkable heights. Portal 2 is an experience to be cherished and already a strong contender for the best game of 2011. [Issue#72, p.78]
Never before has a review embargo had us screaming inside so badly that our mind eventually goes hoarse. We've wanted to shout from the rooftops about how Portal 2 not only betters the original Portal, but completely annihilates it...If you thought the original Portal was a masterpiece, prepare to have your mind blown.
Overall, Portal 2 is an absolutely amazing title. Everyone (including myself) was disappointed when Portal 2 was delayed earlier this year, however, it was more than worth the wait. Portal 2 is a masterpiece that I can see myself playing for years.
Valve has worked its magic yet again with Portal 2, creating a mind-blowing game that's simply superb in both single-player and co-op. In other words, it's hole-ly essential.
Ultimately, Portal 2 is pure genius. With gameplay that never stops becoming addictive and new characters that always threaten to steal the spotlight, Portal 2 is one of the best games of 2011.
Emancipation complete for Portal, which gets rid of his "bonus game" condition with a second episode that is certainly no revolution but still manages to justify its new status.
--NO SPOILERS INCLUDED-- Well, here we are again. The puzzles are a perfect difficulty, where they're hard enough that you can't just fling through them, but they aren't smash-my-keyboard hard. The storyline is interesting, with a whopping ten chapters, where some are more story/exploration based, while others are more puzzle based. The game is MUCH longer than Portal 1, offering more of everything. More puzzles, more story, more characters, more features. Portal 2 offers a co-op mode, where you play with another person. Each person has a pair of portals, and teamwork is required. There are also lots of mods, including: • Portal Stories: Mel • Aperture Tag • Portal Reloaded • Thinking With Time Machine And even more! Final verdict: An epic game, which you need to play.
Portal 2 is way too short and super boring at times, it was a cool game a few years ago but certainly not today. Portal 1 came in a cool package called the Orange Box with several other decent games, and I thought that was a fair way to sell it for $60. I'm very surprised they released Portal 2 as it's own full retail game, it's NOT worth anybody's $60, it's more of a $20 title for puzzle fans. This game should be picked up used and returned within a few days after you beat it, the multiplayer experience is just as dull. BORING!
