My hands actually hurt from gripping the Switch but I couldn’t stop, and when I finally landed on the other side of one of the many gauntlets that Celeste wears like a medal, I felt both relief and curiosity as to what it would throw at me next. It’s a rewarding experience and a game that I’m honoured to issue a perfect score.
Celeste is an exemplary amalgamation of style, mechanics and character. A devilishly brilliant action platformer with enough skill required to excite genre purists and the speed running community, while at the same time featuring a breakdown of gameplay elements to customize and cater for all audiences. While the game mechanically is great, if familiar, the art style and narrative are truly special, showing both a visual and emotional range and depth that will resonate and inspire. Celeste is the absolute peak of personal exploration and discovery on Nintendo Switch.
Celeste is a great platformer, with a very simplistic pixel art style. It may not attract you and it can feel very difficult at the beginning, however, if you can pass the second chapter, you will be hooked up. I died hundreds of times, but never felt frustrated and the game is so easy that it made met finish it. The story and its focus on metal health are simply outstanding.
This game is the best of all time at least for me. The story is gripping, the music always manages to amplify he gameplay and story. The gameplay is also snappy and responsive. 10/10 I cannot truly express how mush i love this game
Celeste is probably the greatest surprise in 2018 so far. Its marvelous platforming, great mechanics, lovely visuals and lovely soundtrack simply make this a must have for anyone who loves 2D platformers.
Celeste is a challenging, charming and near-to-perfection game that doesn't only play well, but also tells a poignant story and merges this with all the best qualities you can expect from a platformer.
It may take a certain type of patience to really get hooked into Celeste's laboriously challenging masochism, but it’s undeniably a well-crafted and thoughtfully designed experience that’s equally satisfying as it is unyielding.
One of the best platform games I ever played. There are so many layers of complexity and secrets that make this game even playable after you finish it for more than one time! Ever time I come back to this I discover something new and have fun as if it was the first time playing. Game mechanics are absolute perfect and precise. Soundtrack is something else! Absolute banger! Listen to it every day, on the commute, working, etc. Really recommend, worth each penny!
Overall, it’s a very good game. The gameplay is fun, the difficulty increases progressively, and you gain new abilities with each chapter, the difficulty increases gradually, which is really well done. . The side quests bring you back to certain levels, adding to the experience. However, the only downside is the story: it’s cheesy, with bland characters and a clichéd "friendship power" theme. The dialogues are long and uninteresting.
If you’re playing just for the gameplay, go ahead and buy it. It's often on sale, and you’ll enjoy it for about a week.
This is not a bad game, it has a modest visual and sound, although they are performed harmoniously. But the gameplay will be fully enjoyed only by those who like to physically memorize every movement of the route on a specific section and repeat it dozens of times before success (at least if you want to master 100% of the content). If you skip about half, you can run through the plot and improvise, but it's not too much fun to skip half of the game, because it can only be completed in the only way, or not in any way, and all this is not with the most responsive controls and average accuracy of hitboxes. It works great on **** story is OK, the atmosphere will do, the gameplay is not good for everyone, and this is the main drawback of this game. Even though my skill is above average in games, I couldn't have as much fun as I was promised by those who gave it 10/10. If you like everything I described above, it's 8/10, but if not, then no more than 6.5/10.
A very overrated game with nothing too special. The great feature is the soundtrack, which is really good, but the rest of the game is just like any other indie shovelware. It would deserve a 6, maybe a 7, but I gave it a 4 because the saddest thing is that the game is hyped by the specialized media just because the political views and connections of the author, which is a very disgusting fact.
Coming from games like Hollow Knight and The Messenger, I was pretty disappointed about spending $20 on this game(thanks hype machine!). Unlike HK or TM, this game controls like a turd. The graphics are nothing to write home about and neither is the music. You know modern gaming journalism is a joke when mediocre games keep getting high scores. If you are a thinking person who doesn't gets easily swayed by pathetic hyping, this is a hard pass. If you absolutely must play this game, just wait until it's on sale for like 10$ or lower
