Eleventh Hour Games proves with Lost Epoch that greatness can be attained through perseverance, passion, and a clear vision. From the get-go, the game stands shoulder to shoulder with the best in the ARPG genre. It offers hours of high-quality entertainment, featuring deep character progression, diverse gameplay systems, and plenty of fun and challenge. Lost Epoch delivers everything you'd expect from this type of game and more.
Even if there are problems with the story and its presentation, Last Epoch inspires in most other aspects and does not have to hide from the genre competition.
This game is too addictive! I can't stop playing it and trying out new builds and nodes on the passive tree. The best thing about it is that you don't need a build guide to have a viable character, you can experiment and discover one on your own!
Last Epoch is a great ARPG with a lot of great ideas with great execution. I give it a 10 for level of enjoyment received from playing overall, but on a more critical level I'd give it a 8 objectively, 9 grading on a curve for a "smaller, inexperienced because simply new devs" class and in order to offset the negative reviews because they aren't completely fair. The negative reviews from users mostly stem from server issues over first week of launch. Co-op issues remain, and my less than a full 10 view mostly stems from that. 10 as a fanboy/8.5 as a critic
Last Epoch is the perfect game for you if Diablo 4 has disappointed you and you're wisely waiting for PoE 2. After 4 years of early access and listening to the community, Eleventh Hour Games has succeeded in creating another great Hack'n'Slash, a perfect blend of the genre's ARPGs, Lost Ark and Dr.Strange. A well-stocked endgame content and thousands of items to farm follow an interesting but not memorable campaign. The game will easily hold you hostage for dozens of hours and more if you're a fan of the genre, and will suit veterans and neophytes alike, even without being as accessible as a D4.
Last Epoch is an ARPG that has great ideas on paper but often stumbles when trying to implement them. But if you somehow persist in climbing that first ramp, the rest goes downhill anyway.
Last Epoch is a quarter-view ARPG designed for genre enthusiasts who may have grown weary of games that are either too easy or too difficult. While the game proves itself by providing immense core gameplay built over its five-year early access, the unstable online server and the worst-ever Korean localization hinders the overall experience.
A versatile build system allows for experiments with deep skill trees and unusual crafting mechanics - but after the initial excitement of creating those builds, momentum fades.
(MY SCORE : 7.5 /10) This Isometric Action RPG game with a Hack-and-Slash combat system is quite exciting and very challenging! The mechanism is similar to the Diablo Game! Last Epoch is set in Eterra, a world inhabited by Gods and Kingdoms. We become a character called "Traveler", where at the beginning we have to choose a class with the options: Rogue, Mage, Acolyte, Sentinel, and Primalist. I myself choose Rogue! We travel through time to change the past to prevent the world from falling into eternal darkness! Our starting point is at the End of Time, and we have to complete Main Quests in several Eras, namely: Ancient Era, Divine Era, Imperial Era and Ruined Era! With Zerrick's help, the Traveler will go to the Majasa temple located in Maj'elka. Majasa is the Goddess of Luxury in the form **** snake covered in jewels who became the ENDING BOSS in this game version 1.0, after she was betrayed by one of her Vessel Maidens, Apophis, by stealing the power of Epoch. (Note: Vessel Maiden is a follower of Majasa who sacrificed her body to maintain Majasa's immortality). For the latest version 1.0, there are a total of 9 chapters in this game. And the final main quest is Apophis and Majasa. However, this game is actually not really finished, because reportedly the developer still wants to add several Main Chapters to this game in the next version!
Nice and fun game and the time travelling aspect brings a nice twist to it.
There is a lot of people saying that it is a middle ground between Diablo 4 and PoE and I agree with them.
Nice comprehensive passive and active skill trees that let you customise your build but and the same time don't require a decades long study to even understand the basics.
The story is somewhat OK. Nothing ground breaking, but it's an ARPG so you don't expect too much anyway. Gameplay is nice and smooth. Graphic style is nice but at the same time I feel like some skills lack a bit of that visual and audio punch to them.
Where the game falls flat a bit for me is the boss encounter design. You either fight in an open arena, where the boss teleports around and hits you with everything they have from outside of the screen or you are locked in a tine place where boss hits you with everything leaving you no place to run or hide. No matter how good you are and how elaborate your build and skills are it's just a gear check. Did you stack up on HP and resistance? No? Well tough.
It's a very lazy design and almost makes you think, why bother with all the skills and skill trees when in the end you can have just one or two basic skills and a massive HP pool and faceroll the whole game.
Game still has some UI problems and glitches and needs some QoL improvements, like "Sell All" at vendor. Other than that it's fine.
PS: Don't bother with most of the negative reviews as those are all the butt hurt people complaining about server issues. Last Epoch has perfectly fine Offline Mode that runs with no issues and lets you play the game without being bothered by anyone and anything.
IMHO this game is boring although it's something fresh on the market.. It just doesn't have that something that grips you. Leveling up feels good, killing monsters feels great but for most of the time I was running through mobs as I was bored to kill them. Not to mention that they respawn each time I was teleporting or changing locations back to the same map. For me this game is one skill use due to it's clunky movement and I wish I could combine my skills into combos but in this state of the game using other skills to me seems like a waste of time. Maybe except this one that gets you away or to enemy fast. This game has a potential but it suffers the same horrible mechanics as D4. It's just too much of everything. Percentage to this, percentage to that. Why can't it be simple enough just to enjoy the game? And loot... It's just not interesting. Seems there's heavy emphasis on crafting but this takes away from excitement of finding something good. Even uniques are uninteresting...
The game is stunning to look at, the soundtrack is epic in scale and mechanically the game seems very solid and scratches that itch. One of those 'let's just play for an hour more' kinda games. If I stopped my review here I'd give it 8/10.
But... I am absolutely baffled with two things:
1) The storytelling is absolutely shocking to the point that honestly I've not a clue what's going on. I have no affinity for my character or any of the NPCs as the game hasn't given me any kind of time with them. Things just seem to happen and then you get a dialogue choice that doesn't matter at all. You push through zone after zone in quick succession before hitting a town/hub... give me a reason to get invested in your world FFS!
2) A good 95% of the time a fail should be down to your skill. You've missed a mechanic, you needed to avoid damage better etc. In Last Epoch that answer is, most of the time, 'get more defence/resistance'. I just fail to see how this is fun at all, or even a challenge. "You died to poison"... okay so you're telling me I need more poison resist? Should I go back to town and just hope there's an armour piece that has that and doesn't ruin my build?
Baffled at the high scores on here but maybe it's just because I'm not a typical ARPG enjoyer, more into the regular RPGs where you get to explore a world. Get lost in it and it's lore. Last Epoch to me just feels like mechanics wrapped up in a pretty shell. The gaming addict in me felt the pull but ultimately it gave me no reason to love it and for my own sake I had to quit at level 60. Gave it more than a fair shot but ultimately I don't get the hype at all.
SummaryLast Epoch combines time travel, exciting dungeon crawling, engrossing character customization and endless replayability to create an Action RPG for veterans and newcomers alike.
