Ultimately, Dragon’s Dogma 2 is an odd combination between Skyrim, Elden Ring, and Tears of the Kingdom that scratches a very unique itch. It might not be for everyone, but it’s certainly for someone, and it’ll be exciting to see what kind of DLC Capcom have planned for it.
If you miss the times when playing video games meant sharing experiences and secrets with your friends and games in which every step was a discovery, then look no further: Dragon's Dogma 2 is the game with the most heart you will find.
This game is magnificent in every aspect, from the graphics, to the gameplay and the story itself. The pawn system is very good and helps a lot in combating certain enemies. for me this game is as good as dragon age inquisition, the witcher 3, baldur's gate 3 or final fantasy rebirth! 10/10
unfair review bombing by larry and his 1000s of accounts because this game sold more than final fantasy rebirth and final fantasy xvi (also known to some as reddit fantasy). it is not perfect, but it is a top seller. 9.1/10 (rounded up to 10)
There are times you can feel Dragon’s Dogma 2 groaning under the weight of its own ambition, but the sheer confidence of its unfaltering vision keeps it surging forward.
Dragon's Dogma 2 is exactly what veterans will be expecting, as double-edged as that may be, but there's simply no other action RPG experience like it.
With Dragon’s Dogma 2 Capcom is offering a mammoth action role-playing game that will delight fans of classic fantasy RPG genre. Driven by missions that can often be solved in a variety of ways, sometimes even pleasingly puzzle-heavy, and an atomically staged game world made up of very varied biomes, you will experience a story full of twists and turns and challenging fights against huge monsters. Sadly, performance-wise 30 fps is the limit here on consoles. Also, sometimes you encounter smaller logical errors and minor visual bugs, but overall it’s a very entertaining title.
If this review feels chaotic, then that’s a fair reflection of the game. It is mad, fun, fantastical chaos and I honestly love it. Before I started writing this, I had left my Arisen and her endearingly incompetent pawn in an ancient battleground patrolled by a dragon. We blasted it with a couple of ballista bolts, and then it flew over and crushed the ballista with a claw, at which point I realised we were somewhat outgunned here and ran for some castle ruins to hide from the creature. This seemed like a good idea until skeletal warriors rose from the ground, and I realised the castle is extremely haunted. I don’t know how we’ll get out of this situation. But I do know it will be an adventure.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 is outwardly hostile to its audience, embracing everything that made the original such a hassle to enjoy. A game designed with the purpose of wasting a player’s time, which makes Capcom’s “time saver” microtransactions all the more sickening. It’s a glorified xerox that you will adore if you believe Dragon’s Dogma was literally perfect when it released in 2012 and absolutely none of the progress within games development in the past twelve years meant one fucking thing. Indeed, if your idea of a good time is having a terrible time, you’ll love this malignant resurrection of ideas and implementations that should have stayed long dead.
The game is truly amazing, and I find it puzzling when people give it low ratings and complain about microtransactions. The quests are intricately detailed, making for an engaging experience. Exploring the world is fascinating, and I particularly enjoy the preparation aspect before venturing into the open world. The combat system is captivating, with each class offering a unique gameplay experience. One drawback I've noticed is that the game was developed using an engine that isn't ideally suited for it, resulting in FPS drops when entering cities or villages. Regarding microtransactions, they don't detract from the game's quality. Firstly, I fail to see why some people overlook similar donation features in other games from the same company, such as Resident Evil or Devil May Cry. Secondly, donations are entirely optional, and the game provides ample resources even without them.
Overall it was a fun game. The beginning feels very fresh and open with a lot to explore, but as you progress you realize the world isn’t quite as big as you first imagined. Combat is fun and the different vocations keep combat fresh, with unique enemies and battle mechanics that make fights stand out from other games. The story left a lot to be desired. I was never really too moved by the narrative, and any interesting characters unfortunately had very little screen time - which was normally in the form of short cutscenes. The side quests were much better than the main quest, but even main of those became repetitive and didn’t really offer anything story-wise, rather just something to do like an “escort mission”
This game’s biggest controversy is how much it leaves to be desired. So much of it felt like they were barely scratching the surface of their potential. The pawn system is incredible, yet the interactions are dull. The combat is a blast, yet you’re fighting the same handful of enemies the entire game. The characters are diverse, yet lifeless & uninteresting. The story & some side quests are intriguing, yet so poorly executed.
Despite my gripes about how much this game feels half-baked, I was surprised by how many countless hours I spent playing it. I’ve never been a big NG+ person, but DD2 has so much replayability that I did three playthroughs before moving on to something else. The truth is, I just wish I could get more out of it.
I honestly finished the game with "???" on my mind, why did the game fail so miserably on every aspect except graphics?
the game is so unbelievably boring, SO SO short when focusing on the main story only, and literally forces you to walk from village to village which will take 15 mins max of your time (yes, REAL LIFE time). I played 100+ of the game and honestly in the last few hours I gave up continuing on the side quests and just went straight ahead to the story which was beyond disappointing. and the side quests don't even help with sugar coating the game, it's very buggy, doesn't tell you what to do and expects YOU to know what to do next, then if done wrong, the quest may discontinue :) and you can't even load the last save because its system is TRASH. the only things that are nice are: graphics, vocations, and fighting. done.
If you're planning to buy it please consider again lol, not worth it at all.
Ratings and reviews like this game really shows just how out of touch “critics” are with gamers
This is one of the most overrated hyped up garbage games I’ve ever played. Metacritic should reimburse me for the 85$ I wasted on this crap. The graphics are outdated and the performance is terrible, but more than that the game just isn’t good. The entire game is roaming around the wilderness that’s all the same in a boring world looking for one of the 5 total enemy types in the game. There is no “story” or character building. Gear is class restricted, so each class can only use certain gear that basically only upgrades to the next tier as you progress, so everyone is using the same exact gear for the class they’re playing. There is no build diversity, no customization, no upgrade system. You unlock skills which works the same as gear. You get limited skills that you replace with the next strongest one as you progress. Metacritic should be reimbursing people for manipulating them into buying games with their bs ratings
