About us

The Web Conference (formerly WWW conference) is a yearly international conference on the topic of the future directions of the World Wide Web. The Conference aims to provide the world with a premier forum for discussion and debate about the evolution of the Web, the standardization of its associated technologies, and the impact of those technologies on society and culture. The conference brings together researchers, developers, users and commercial ventures — indeed all those who are passionate about the Web and what it has to offer. The World Wide Web was first conceived in 1989 by Tim Berners-Lee at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland. The first conference of the series, WWW1, was held at CERN in 1994 and organized by Robert Cailliau. The International World Wide Web Conferences Committee (IW3C2) was founded by Joseph Hardin and Robert Cailliau later in 1994 and has been responsible for the conference series ever since. Starting with the 2018 edition, the conference series previously known as World Wide Web Conference (WWW) has been renamed as The Web Conference or TheWebConf with a new brand and a new communication model. Until 2021, the conferences have been organized by the IW3C2 in collaboration with Local Organizing Committees and Technical Program Committees. The 2022 edition marks another important change in the history of this conference series: it is now integrated into ACM SIGWEB and will be managed by a new steering committee within ACM. The opening ceremony at the ballroom was kicked off by the Steering Commmittee Chair Dick Bulterman. The General Chairs Tat-Seng Chua and Chong-Wah Ngo gave a warm welcome, followed by the Program Chairs Ravi Kumar and Hady W. The program began proper with a keynote by Jie Tang and Bo Zhang. We then broke into seven parallel sessions covering research, industry, and Web4Good, and History of the Web tracks, before coming together again for a panel discussion on LLM Impact on the Web featuring Andrew Tomkins, Jon Kleinberg, Yoelle Maarek, and Jie Tang. There were two poster sessions that allowed authors to interact dynamically with attendees. All in all, a full and interesting programmes galore. Awards: https://lnkd.in/gNjTCnbQ

#TheWebConf24: The second day (May 14, 2024) of The ACM Web Conference 2024 featured more programmes: a well-attended Large Language Model Day, a meaningful Health Day, a co-located Web4All conference, a mentored PhD Symposium, as well as a series of 8 workshops and 10 tutorials on various topics. In the evening, we kick off the Main Conference phase, with a Welcome Reception hosted at Tipsy Unicorn, a beach club at Sentosa with a pool dance floor, which some attendees took a dip in while enjoying a live band, all while having bar snacks and drinks. Zhipu AI gave a sponsored talk to open the occasion. Though the evening began with a rain shower, it soon stopped and attendees were welcome by a sunset by the beach and a fun evening.

#TheWebConf24: The ACM Web Conference 2024 took off without a hitch on the first day May 13, 2024. The Online Trust & Safety Day also integrated the presentations by finalists of the Online Safety Prize Challenge run by AI Singapore. The Emerging World Symposium encouraged participation and presentations by underrepresented regions. Five tutorials ran concurrently in the morning, followed by another five in the afternoon. Eight workshops on diverse topics gathered communities of common interest. Food flowed at two coffee breaks and lunch. It's good to be back among friends, and making new ones.
