Make tech insanely profitable with new provocative ideas every Monday in my Insanely Profitable Tech newsletter (see Squirrel Squadron in Contact Info)
This week’s mind-blowing moment came when a technical leader asked me how to hire “T-shaped people”, the generalising specialists who add huge value by being stars in one area, like front-end coding, and also making useful contributions in others, like database management or design. Even with the tech job market softened a bit from its pandemic peak, people like this are very rare to find—which is why I recommended this leader consider growing flexible specialists in-house. You’re looking for the adaptive, curious people in your team or in your candidate pipeline, the ones who are trying out generative AI in their spare time or bugging QA folks to learn about better test case design. Give them the time and resources to learn skills adjacent to their main specialism, and the benefits to team productivity will be profound. As I often say, some of the best coders I ever hired knew nothing about the programming language of the team I brought them into! This mind-blowing question and answer went out first in my weekly email to the Squirrel Squadron. To get these insights and more before anyone else, sign up here:

It's always great to receive feedback from students who have participated in educational programs like TECH PYNDROID. Here are some potential experiences students might share, here's an example of a student sharing their experience about the TECH PYNDROID internship program: "My journey with the TECH PYNDROID internship program at ST. JOSEPH'S INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY, OMR was nothing short of transformative. As a high school student in the 11th grade, I had a keen interest in technology but lacked practical exposure to different domains. That all changed when I joined TECH PYNDROID. One of the domains I participated in was UI/UX Design, where I learned the principles of creating interfaces that prioritize user experience. This domain not only taught me the importance of design aesthetics but also emphasized the significance of usability and accessibility. Through hands-on projects and mentorship from industry experts, I gained invaluable skills that I can apply to future projects and endeavors. Another domain that piqued my interest was Real-Time Practices in Python. Although I had some prior knowledge of programming, delving into Python in real-world contexts was a game-changer. From solving coding challenges to building practical applications, I discovered the versatility and efficiency of Python as a programming language. This domain ignited my passion for coding and problem-solving, and I'm eager to explore more advanced topics in the future. Overall, the TECH PYNDROID internship program provided me with a holistic learning experience that extended beyond the confines of traditional classroom education. I had the opportunity to explore diverse domains such as web development, graphic design, and video animation, gaining exposure to skills that are highly relevant in today's tech-driven world. Moreover, the supportive environment fostered by the faculty and mentors encouraged collaboration and creativity among participants. I was able to interact with like-minded peers and exchange ideas, fostering a sense of camaraderie and shared learning. As I reflect on my experience with TECH PYNDROID, I am grateful for the opportunity to expand my horizons and develop practical skills that will undoubtedly shape my academic and professional journey. I would highly recommend this internship program to any high school student eager to explore the exciting world of technology and innovation." #cse #stjosephs https://lnkd.in/gJgy72Rp

Very impressive interview, - Instead of using KPI, which is the result, use something that is early indicator for future result - Select the work that if no one is working on it, the world will come down (and no one is working on it) - Work with the people who are the geniuses in the field

Over engineering is a serious problem – be it aviation industry or software product development. And to be honest, nobody does it with bad intentions. But, if you ignore it, well, instead of solving your users' problem, it'll end up making it even worse. In our latest blog, we've covered why aim for 'engineering excellence' instead of over engineering which led Swissair Flight 111 to crash (90s one of the worst flight incidents). Read the blog and learn how to not make simple things complicated! >>> https://bit.ly/3vpAf4B #Azilen #OverEngineering #SoftwareProductDevelopment
