What can serious games do for your organization?
Seriously entertaining
During Serious Game Night, on 3 November in the Rotterdamse Schouwburg, game developers, researchers of Erasmus University Rotterdam and artists will join forces to teach you the ins and outs on the topic of serious games.
Serious Games
We can all imagine how it feels to play a game. Maybe you remember the fun of playing outside when you were a kid. Or maybe you can still recall the friendly competition when playing a board game with your parents, the excitement of playing videogames with your friends or the frustration of losing a level in an online game.
You will probably associate playing games with having fun, relaxation, a bit of competition, and excitement. But not all games are primarily focused on entertainment. Some games are also used to teach certain things. They, for example, inform you about environmental issues, or confront you with the dangers of texting while driving, or teach you how to deal with a particular disease such as diabetes. We call those games serious games.
Programme
During the Serious Game Night, scholars and developers will show you the characteristics of serious games and how they are different from (or similar to) entertainment games. You will get to see different kinds of serious games and learn how they work. At the end of the evening you will understand better how serious games motivate us to play, and maybe even persuade us to change the way we think or behave. Also, you will see the impact that serious games can have in the emergency room of the Erasmus Medical Center. Come and immerse yourself in the world of serious games!
