The King Is Dead, Long Live The King!
You have probably heard of a very small acquisition in our industry- namely that of Datto by Kaseya. This deal was announced by a variety of outlets and is documented by CRN listing the acquisition at the cost of $6.2B.
And whilst the social grumblings continue from Reddit, Facebook, and to some extent, LinkedIn the back and forth continues to keep coming.
Opportunism
This week saw SuperOpis.ai take a marketing step I personally believe to be tied directly into everyone's emotions on this purchase. Never heard of this company before, this tactic of launching goodbyedatto.com strikes me as a poor marketing strategy. Connected directly to everyone's emotional responses to the Kaseya acquisition.
What Now?
Acquisitions in our space have become the norm these days. The Connectwise acquisition was around $1.5B so the Datto announcement is no doubt an eye-opener. Take a look at your agreements with Datto to ensure you have an open window "if" you need it. Agreements in our industry are notoriously fraught with a gotcha or two. Always be very aware of what you put your signature on.
In my own personal opinion, however, I truly believe that the Kaseya acquisition will be a good thing for our industry. Despite what doom-mongers have to say Kaseya has continued to grow and invest in platforms they have purchased.
