Appointed President of The World Bank in 2023, Ajay is on a mission to evolve what comes next for the storied institution. There are five main areas of The World Bank – people, prosperity, planet, infrastructure, and digital – each of which play a unique role in the organization’s goals to eradicate poverty and create shared prosperity on a livable planet.
A big piece of the puzzle in achieving all of this is digital transformation and digital technologies. Ajay believes digitization “is the miraculous medicine that could drive change” because technology can be an equalizer. He shares how The World Bank is executing on this front by utilizing new AI tools, while prioritizing data safety and security.
Ajay’s career has prepared him to make his vision for The World Bank a reality. He was the CEO of Mastercard for many years, and we also worked together on making the U.S.-India partnership the strongest in the world. I’ve been bullish on the India’s potential for many years – but I owe it to Ajay for planting the idea of the U.S. and India working together as the two greatest democracies in my head. For the U.S. and India, Ajay knows we need to continue taking risks and dreaming bigger for what can be accomplished together, and the same goes for The World Bank.
