Cumbrian experts to hold GDPR workshop

Cumbrian experts to hold GDPR workshop

We've organised a workshop for Cumbrian experts to brief businesses on the sweeping changes to data protection coming into force in less than 12 weeks time.

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will give individuals the right to know more about how their information is being used by organisations and businesses.

The new rules comes into effect on May 25th and will force many people to rethink not only how they store data, but how they carry out any marketing that might rely on databases or email lists.

The workshop is being held in Carlisle later this month and will feature experts in marketing, law and IT so that businesses, charities and other organisations will know exactly what they need to do to keep on the right side of the new laws.

The keynote speaker will be Cumbrian marketing expert Jacky York, She has worked with SMEs for over 30 years, with clients in the UK and Ireland, and has been heavily involved in briefing businesses about GDPR, speaking at numerous events on the subject.

One of Cumbria’s leading information law specialists will also be speaking at the event. Vaughan Jones, partner and head of corporate at Burnetts which is sponsoring the workshop, will outline the key changes to data protection law. He said:

“The GDPR is a wide-ranging piece of legislation but in this session I’ll be boiling it down to the essential aspects which will be relevant to most Cumbrian businesses in particular consents, fair processing and privacy policies.”

Completing the workshop line-up will be Neil Kendall, of Indelible Data, who will provide advice on technical issues and look at the best ways to store data under GDPR rules.

The event is being hosted by Intro, Carlisle's new PR and social media agency, in conjunction with Burnetts solicitors. Helen Statham, director of Intro, said:

"GDPR is obviously going to herald a big change in the way we all handle personal data whether that's marketing, competitions, newsletters or customer databases and we hope this event will not only give people a chance to hear from experts about what the changes mean, but also share their experiences and concerns."
  • The ‘Are You Ready For GDPR?’ workshop takes place on Tuesday March 27th 1-4pm at the Business Interaction Centre, Paternoster Row. To get a ticket go to: buytickets.at/intro
