Another Day, Another Hack

A Bangladesh bank was hacked, resulting in an $81 million cyber heist. The SWIFT system, which calls itself "the global provider of secure financial messaging services" revealed a previous heist, possibly by the same gang and possibly related to the SONY break in, that involved a Vietnamese bank.

"In both cases, SWIFT said, insiders or cyber attackers had succeeded in penetrating the targeted banks' systems, obtaining user credentials and submitting fraudulent SWIFT messages that correspond with transfers of money."

As I have written before, companies and agencies need to be held responsible for both security and for timely reporting. One can understand SWIFT's reticence in reporting the initial incursion, it certainly doesn't make them look good, but the policy of concealment leaves the door open for other break-ins.
