AI at Work with Carmine Di Sibio, former Global Chairman and CEO of EY – Episode 31 of “Chambers Talks: A Podcast Series with John Chambers”

I sat down with my friend and the former Global Chairman and CEO of EY, Carmine Di Sibio for the next episode of #ChambersTalks #podcast. We covered lessons learned for new and experienced CEOs alike, including mastering the art of directness, embracing and deploying new technology within organizations, and developing use cases of #AIatWork.

When Carmine took on the role of Global Chairman and CEO of EY in 2019, he brought with him 35 years of experience at the firm. He was committed to securing EY’s future as a global leader in innovation, which meant harnessing the power of next gen tech like AI. Carmine shared that EY’s approach to AI comes down to three questions: “How will we use AI to help our clients? How will we use AI to make our own business more effective, productive, and profitable? And how are we going to promote AI for good?” Carmine’s experience leading EY through this transition positions him as a leader with invaluable insights about how organizations – from startups to large corporations – can best implement AI and overcome the fears associated with it.

As always, in addition to business and tech trends, Carmine and I also spent time talking about leadership advice. Carmine said he would have told his younger self to “be more direct”. As a proud believer in being “EY Nice”, Carmine admits that he wishes his younger self would have learned earlier how to be nice while still providing others with much needed constructive feedback. The balance is difficult for anyone to strike, no matter how many times you have tough conversations at work. We go back-and-forth on how to find that happy medium – and also cover how this lesson relates to the evolving role of the CEO, as we are faced with deciding which social issues to speak on, navigating geopolitics when you are serving clients across the globe, and so much more.

Great podcast, John Chambers and Carmine Di Sibio. It's rare to have had the opportunity to work for two exceptional leaders. After spending several years under your leadership at Cisco, I had the privilege of joining EY-Parthenon just a few months before the pandemic hit, where I witnessed firsthand the resilience and supportive culture that defined EY during Carmine’s tenure. #Cisco #EY #EYParthenon #leadership
