The 3 Coolest Procurement Things of 2023

The 3 Coolest Procurement Things of 2023

Well 2023 didn't disappoint, it was another chaotic year filled with macro disruptions, innovation, and even some business as usual. Below are the three coolest things I experienced in 2023 (be sure to scroll to the bottom 😃). Of course it goes without saying that procurement people are the coolest. I so enjoy meeting and talking to everyone I encounter in this profession (as evidenced by my 2023 wrapped video).

Coolest things:

  • ImportYeti- Typically I don't like to single out particular solutions, but rather groups of solutions. However, I'm making an exception here not because I am suggesting anybody buy (or not buy) the solution, but rather I think this represents two concepts that I think are critical to the future; simplicity and data. ImportYeti does exactly that. If you go to the site you get a simple interface to search, "U.S. Customs Sea Shipment Records Instantly". It's fascinating to look at the data that comes back instantly. You can even download the data, which is helpful for integrating into broader analytical or other downstream applications. It's absolutely fascinating and will take you down various rabbit holes. Kudos to founder David Applegate for creating something so simple and useful.
  • DPW and Process Orchestration- I doubt anybody will be shocked by me saying DPW (see article) and the advancement within the process orchestration space (see article) make the list of coolest things in 2023. So I'll just leave this here.
  • Procurement goes mainstream- The absolutely coolest thing about Procurement in 2023 was Procurement hitting the big time. John Oliver did a segment on McKinsey and as part of it there was a brief mention of procurement. I nearly fell out my chair when I saw that. However, John had a question about procurement so I made a video answering his question 😃.

I wish everyone a wonderful 2024 and look forward to interacting with you all throughout the year.
