“The electric grid, which was built to accommodate coal and gas plants, is becoming a major obstacle to efforts to fight climate change.” This is a really interesting read on what’s wrong with the traditional grid system, and how it’s slowing our progress towards climate goals. As demand for electricity rises, we need a more flexible, more reliable and efficient system. Without solutions to help us better integrate energy from renewable sources into the grid, we’ll struggle to keep the lights on in years to come. #energytransition #renewableenergy #smartgrid https://lnkd.in/drhKUA4v

Natural Gas has saved the day in Texas due to the lack or reliability of renewables, but the reality is that ERCOT and the SPP need more natural gas fired electric generation. And the reason for the need is simple, Reliabilty. Renewables are not Reliable. The push away from reliable, dispatchable generation, like natural gas, in favor of unreliable power generation, like wind and solar, is what is creating these problems. The need for new power generation is not the duplication of the existing sources with unreliable power in the form of renewables, but rather the expansion of reliable, dispatchable generation. The obvious choice is Natural Gas powered electric generation. #energyforall #naturalgas

Global heat records smashed in 2023. The Australian as well other governments should commit to stopping all new coal and gas projects and support communities to transition from fossil to renewables. ----------- Global monthly temperature from 1940 to 2023 https://lnkd.in/g3fJ5ErE

A few months ago, I posted that Erik Townsend from MacroVoices was producing a YouTube docu-series on the energy transition crisis... It's here! "Energy Transition Crisis is a free 8-part docuseries that explains why wind and solar alone won't be anough, then takes a hard look at what's really going to take to break humanity's addiction to fossil fuels by 2050." IEA Director: “Clean energy progress will continue with or without oil and gas producers.” No, it won’t. Global decarbonization to date: delivered exclusively by #naturalgas displacing coal. Wind/solar/EVs have contributed nothing, and likely made CO2 higher due to egregious life cycle carbon footprints. #truth

When wind generation can’t provide power the backup source is needed which is typically a fossil fuel. This means that Natural Gas generation will be needed for decades into the future as intermittent resources get deployed at a large scale.

Nothing like some great infographics to tell a story. Shows the significant global growth in electricity generation (demand) which will continue as electrification expands. New wind and solar are meeting this growth but more needed to offset fossil fuels. Reducing the emissions from these sources (end fugitive emissions, more gas less coal and CCS) will help the transition. This from a NY Times compilation based on Ember electricity data, well worth a browse. https://lnkd.in/gEUSndBr
