Xander Soren’s Post

[**PERSONAL UPDATE**] After 21 magical years working on digital media and music technology for my favorite company in the world, I recently said a fond farewell to my friends and colleagues at Apple and set off to explore new adventures. As a kid, I was completely infatuated with science and technology, always dreaming about living in the future. So on my last day, when I got into my electric car and it drove itself to the “mothership,” Apple's awe-inspiring spaceship campus in Cupertino, I couldn’t help but reflect with tremendous gratitude on the incredible experience, and a chance to work on all the things I’ve always loved. I can’t properly describe the fun I’ve had, playing in the Apple sandbox during some of the most innovative years in the company’s history. I started my Apple career working on iTunes & iPod, then iLife, and for most of it, helping build creative tools for musicians: GarageBand, Logic Pro, Voice Memos, etc. Along the way, I even got to help produce some of the most iconic ringtones for iPhone. My extended team—who develops and launches music creation apps—are some of the most incredible people you will ever meet. They all play musical instruments and are dreamers, creators, and the most passionate and intelligent people on the planet. It was the honor of my lifetime to work with them, debate ideas and designs, and launch decades of magical music apps into the world. I’m looking forward to seeing all the cool things they will dream up next! And I have to share a special shoutout to Dr. Gerhard Lengeling, my engineering partner and collaborator for the last 20 years—he and his team have built a set of wonderful and beloved creative tools that will go down in history as changing the world for musicians everywhere. And of course, all our work was enabled by the vision and passion of Steve Jobs, who made the bold move to invest in creating world-class music creation apps, and even bolder: making them available to everyone. As a free but quite powerful app, GarageBand has been installed on over a BILLION devices, putting an entire recording studio into the pocket of anyone who wants to have fun making music, wherever they are.  So what’s next? After spending most of my career working to help other musicians realize their creative vision, I’m looking forward to making some music myself! But my biggest new project will be in the world of wine, launching a boutique pinot noir brand in 2023. Following two years being grounded during the pandemic, I’m particularly looking forward to traveling the globe, catching up with old friends, and meeting new ones. You’ll probably find me in Japan at least a third of the year. Still pinching myself after an incredible ride... Now, off to the next one! Xander Soren

That’s awesome Xander. I remember when you got the job there. Let me know when you’re in LA so we can hang for a bit.

Congratulations! 🎉 Even though your experience at Apple is going to be a hard one to top, something tells me you will! 🍷 🌍

Wonderful news! Loved the opportunity to have met you briefly during my .Mac days. Your stories about how you could see music 🎶 in colors still blows my mind today. Looking forward to trying your new Pinot. We don’t have that type of wine in Austria 🇦🇹 (I moved back to Europe in 2020)

Witnessing your work and accomplishments in the early days was awe inspiring and....wow, it was only the start. Your collaboration, leadership and genuine love for the work and the people in it is of inspiration to me and so many. It's even more awesome to know how enriching the experience has been for you! Wishing you all the very best as you enter this next chapter.

Xander, your spirit and drive were once very inspirational (been a while since we've connected), and I'm sure your next adventure will be exciting, fulfilling, and it sounds like us wine aficionados will benefit from your new endeavor!
