It's Global Recycling Day today 🌍♻ Here are some useful ways that you can recycle that are beneficial to the planet and to your wallet: 1) Repurpose your old clothing or other textiles by making them into something else. For example, using the material from an old T-shirt to make clothing for your children's dolls. 2) Buying refurbished tech from refurbishing charities like us at Edinburgh Remakery. 3) Making animal feeders out of empty food containers. For example, making a bird feeder out of an empty milk bottle. As part of our ongoing sustainability initiatives, we're supporting OzHarvest this month with a donation of over 700kg of flour.   With the rising cost of living, more and more Australian’s are struggling to put food on the table. Not only is OzHarvest providing relief for those in need, they’re also fighting to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill – a goal we share here at Kez’s Kitchen.   OzHarvest expressed their gratitude, sharing that the demand for support has never been higher, and our contribution will help them create an abundance of bread for those in need.   We encourage others in businesses in food #manufacturing to consider donating any excess product and ingredients - to help make a positive impact on their community and the #environment.   OzHarvest accepts all perishable and frozen food (including dairy, fish and meat, fresh juice) which is on or before its ‘use by date’ as long as it is still fit for human consumption, and all non-perishable food even if it is up to 3 months past its ‘best before date’.   Visit ozharvest.org to learn more.   #KezsKitchen #SustainabilityInitiatives #GiveBack #CommunitySupport

Have you ever heard of the term "food rescue"? This is a term that is used when people have food to donate that might otherwise spoil before it could be eaten. In other words, it is a way for people to donate food they aren't going to eat to those who are in need. Moreso, food rescue programs can save millions of gallons of water each year and reduce millions of pounds of CO2 emissions. Reducing food waste lessens the demand for more crops, more processing, and more transportation for food distribution. All of which contribute to harmful emissions in the air and put a strain on our natural resources. So, before you let your food spoil in your refrigerator, consider joining a food rescue program and donating it. Why we decided to donate to The Ocean Cleanup with our annual Christmas donation... 🤝 For this year's donation, we chose a charity that fits our values and kind of business (the overstock business) quite well. The overstock business is all about giving products a second (or third) chance. Whether it's an End-of-Line product, a shop return, a product with damaged packaging or a trend product which isn't a trend anymore, companies in the overstock business buy and sell them to give them another chance so they won't end up in flames or even worse; in the ocean. 𝙎𝙤 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙙𝙤𝙚𝙨 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙊𝙘𝙚𝙖𝙣 𝘾𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙣𝙪𝙥 𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙪𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝙙𝙤? The Ocean Cleanup is a non-profit organization developing and scaling technologies to rid the oceans of plastic. To achieve this objective, they use a dual strategy: intercepting plastic in rivers to cut the inflow of pollution, and cleaning up what has already accumulated in the ocean and won’t go away by itself.
