Discussing markets with a friend this weekend, I noticed he had a very worried look on his face before saying, "Tech was 34% of the S&P500 at the peak of the bubble in 2000. Today it's 33%!" I'm not sure why this would be a problem, given the earnings profiles of modern tech companies versus those in 2000. Rationally too, before even digging into the numbers, I feel like a much greater share of our personal earnings go towards paying for technology services compared to 2000. The year is 2030, do we think tech and fintech will be an even more prominent feature of our lives compared to today? If yes, do we want to own a share of those earnings? Do you know what a 'dilly' is? No? Doesn't matter - keep reading to find out more! -- I recently realized that Summer 2024 marks 10 years since I started working in FinTech fresh out of New York University (such a 👴🏽)! Shout out to Mastercard's Associate Analyst Class of 2014, where it all started 👋🏽 Over the past decade, I've been lucky to work in back to back 🚀 FinTech startups across Risk, BizOps, and Product roles (Bluevine | Stenn Technologies). One key lesson learned as both an operator and builder is that investment in the right vendor solutions delineates between products that grow at a break neck speed, and those that simply break your (metaphorical) neck. As I creep closer to this milestone, I've been contemplating a capstone passion project of sorts - one that helps me contribute back to the community that has granted me endless favors. With that in mind, I've been chatting with industry friends & mentors over the past couple months to validate a half-baked thesis... there's a vacuum of solution discovery in FinTech - of the tools, providers, and general innovations that enable builders do what they do best: BUILD!
