Ft. Richa Vashista and their journey! My desire to become a therapist dates back to my school days, specifically to the sixth grade. This aspiration led me to work with grassroots organizations supporting queer individuals in 2014. While my early struggles involved coming out to friends and family, I consider myself privileged in that I haven't faced significant discrimination in my professional life. I have been practicing as an integrative psychotherapist in India for over nine years. My journey into this field began when I realized the power of mental health support while working with diverse individuals. I specialize in various areas, including LGBTQIA+ issues, perinatal mental health, trauma, borderline personality (BPD), workplace mental health, family systems, and intimate partnerships. My therapeutic approach is rooted in a worldview that is queer-affirmative, intersectional, and centered on social justice. This perspective has evolved over time, especially when I started working closely with the LGBTQIA+ community in 2015. It was during this period that I came to terms with my own identity as a queer person, breaking free from societal conditioning and the pretense of living a cisgender-heterosexual life. Around a year and a half ago, I embraced my non-binary identity, adding a new layer to my personal journey. Navigating a heteronormative society as a non-binary individual can be challenging, but it's a challenge I embrace daily, as I strive to create a space for fluidity and acceptance in our world. For anyone seeking therapy, I understand the difficulty of being vulnerable and finding a therapist who is both queer and trans affirmative. It's something we, as professionals, must continuously work on ourselves since it's not always part of our formal education. To find the right therapist, it's crucial to ask questions about what being queer or trans affirmative means to them. Through this conversation you can determine if they are the right fit for your needs. Written by: @Antasdeep

This is a common risk factor for mental health problems in women that most people don’t realize or choose to ignore. The gender pay gap. On average, women earn only ONE-FOURTH of what men earn for the same work, same hours, and the same amount of energy. If supporting women is more than lip service for you, it’s time to take action. And here’s just a few ways you can start advocating for true equality: 💜 Support women-owned businesses 💜 Advocate for policy changes that give women EVERYTHING they deserve 💜 Support organizations and initiatives that work toward gender equality. To all the women shouldering an uneven burden in a world that often preaches but forgets to practice equality, remember this: Don’t forget to take care of yourself. And don’t continue to press on in public and suffer in silence. We’re here to help. Book a call to meet with a therapist who understands your journey as a woman and wants to remind you that you’re not alone in navigating this complex and unbalanced life. https://lnkd.in/gJNps675 #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthsupport #genderpaygap #womenincorporateamerica #femaleentrepreneurs

🌈 Embracing Neurodiversity in Our Lives and Workplaces 🌈 In a world that prizes conformity, living with undiagnosed neurodiversity can feel like navigating a complex maze without a guide. The journey of discovering one's neurodiverse identity later in life is filled with challenges, insights, and ultimately, empowerment. I've just shared an article detailing my profound journey as a late-diagnosed neurodiverse woman in the U.S. This story reminds us of the importance of understanding, accepting, and supporting neurodiversity - not just in our personal lives but also in our professional environments. This narrative sheds light on the struggles of misdiagnosis, the transformative power of self-acceptance, and the crucial role of community. It's a must-read for anyone looking to foster a more inclusive, empathetic, and supportive workplace. 🔗 As leaders, colleagues, and advocates, it's our responsibility to ensure our workspaces are welcoming to all kinds of minds. Let's use this story as a stepping stone towards creating a more diverse and inclusive society. #NeurodiversityAwareness #InclusiveLeadership #ProfessionalGrowth #EmpathyInAction https://lnkd.in/e88RFj5i

✨ ♾️ Neuroinclusive recruitment and onboarding that supports and promotes good mental health - how can it be done? 💚 ✨ Delighted to be a guest at a roundtable today with Natalie Lightfoot at Oliver James to talk about one of my favourite topics and more! Although it's been a while since I changed jobs (though you might argue that each introductory session with a potential client / collaborator is an interview), I've recently helped two of my coaching clients secure jobs that meet their neurodivergent needs 🎉 (and yes, navigating the process was a journey!). #neurodiversitycelebrationweek #neuroinclusion (I wish LinkedIn's hashtag suggestions had camel case in it)

📆 Today is Wear It Purple Day, when we show our support for LGBTIQA+ young people by wearing purple. Research estimates that three quarters of LGBTIQA+ youth experience some form of discrimination, including high levels of verbal abuse. One-in-five experience physical bullying. Community members also experience depression and anxiety at much higher levels than among the general population. Wear it Purple Day is an opportunity for us all to be more conscious of this issue and do our best to support LGBTIQA+ young people however we can. This is what Kat Fry (snapped below), a Peer Support Worker at St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney’s Mental Health Service, has to say about Wear it Purple Day… “As a proud queer woman, someone who has experienced mental distress, and now as someone who works within the mental health service at St Vincent’s, I know how important it is to feel seen, that your story is heard, and your identity supported. This year’s theme for Wear It Purple Day is ‘Write your story’, which places emphasis on the importance of individuality, free expression, and authenticity for LGBTIQA+ youth. “As a peer worker, I use my story to empower consumers to live their life, and write their story, in a way that is meaningful and authentic to them. In a world where social and mainstream media, as well as the health and education systems, often create pressure to conform, Wear It Purple Day is about encouraging young people to embrace their uniqueness and share it with others.” Even if you’re not wearing purple today, we hope you get a chance to reflect on Kat’s important message. Happy Wear It Purple Day!

Want me to tell you something they don’t tell you when it comes to therapy? Just because they say they are therapist, doesn’t mean they can be your therapist The fact is if you do not connect with your therapist, if they do not understand the background you’re from, you’re wasting your time and your money, and that’s the hard truth of the matter! This is why many people get therapy and then give up after a few sessions, because it doesn’t work out. Maybe you’re one of those people? When it comes to therapy, your therapist must come from a similar background and community you fall into, to understand your social experience. A lack of this is why many marginalised communities, such as Black people and people of colour, people with neurodiversity issues, and the LGBTQ+ communities struggle when it comes to therapy. Life factors compound with intersectionality, and if this is not addressed from the beginning when you search for your therapist, unfortunately, you’re going to waste a lot of time and money, looking for the one that fits. That is why I would recommend #BetterHelp, they are the first therapy service that asks you a range of questions, so they can recommend the best therapist for you. This is an absolute godsend for those who need therapy and don’t have time and money to waste looking for the one! When I say those who need therapy, I’m speaking to every one of you, whether you are in a good place or a bad place we all need therapy. We all need a professional who we can talk to regularly about the stresses of life. Check out better on the link below, find yourself a therapist, it’s a very important part of staying healthy. https://lnkd.in/e6CwM2Xr MHFA England® and Simon Blake OBE CCMI this would be an extremely valuable resource for the MHFA supporter APP! #therapy #counselingservices #mentalhealthcontinuum #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthandlife

In light of the recent feature in the Islington Tribune, it's heartening to see the crucial conversation around racism in therapy gaining momentum. The journey towards truly inclusive therapeutic practices is both necessary and overdue. 🌟 Reflecting on my own experiences and the formation of Bempong Talking Therapy, it's clear that the path to change begins with acknowledging the profoundly ingrained biases within our training and practice. The predominance of a singular perspective in psychological models underscores the need for a more diverse and inclusive approach. How can we, as a community, work towards dismantling these barriers? It involves more than just recognizing the diversity of experiences; it requires embedding this understanding into the fabric of our therapeutic practices. Let's discuss actionable steps we can take to enrich our profession with cultural consciousness and ensure therapy is accessible and relevant to everyone. Your insights and experiences are invaluable as we navigate this transformative journey together. #InclusiveTherapy #WednesdayWisdom #ChangeMakers 🌈 Read more about this critical discussion here: https://rebrand.ly/gu6bmk7.
