Did you know that the earliest references to yoga can be found in the Rigveda, an ancient Hindu text dating back to around 1,500 BCE? Yoga is a group of physical, mental, and spiritual practices and disciplines that aim to control and still the mind, recognizing a detached witness-consciousness untouched by the mind and mundane suffering. Over the centuries, yoga evolved into a systematic practice. Today, there is a wide variety of schools of yoga, practices, and goals. The term "yoga" in the Western world often denotes a posture-based physical fitness, stress-relief and relaxation technique, consisting largely of asanas (postures). This differs from the traditional yoga, which focuses on meditation and release from worldly attachments. This International Day of Yoga, celebrated on 21 June, explore more of this rich tradition → https://w.wiki/3izp

ARTICLE ON YOGA Yoga, an ancient practice and meditation, has become increasingly popular in today's busy society. For many people, yoga provides a retreat from their chaotic and busy lives. This is true whether you're practicing downward facing dog posture on a mat in your bedroom, in an ashram in India, or even in New York's Times Square. Yoga provides many other mental and physical benefits. Some of these extend to the kitchen table. There are many types of yoga. Hatha (a combination of many styles) is one of the most popular styles. It is a more physical type of yoga rather than a still, meditative form. Hatha yoga focuses on pranayamas (breath-controlled exercises). These are followed by a series of asanas (yoga postures), which end with savasana (a resting period). The goal during yoga practice is to challenge yourself physically, but not to feel overwhelmed. At this "edge," the focus is on your breath while your mind is accepting and calm.

How Yoga can makes you independent? Hahah please don’t start associating it with spirituality and stuff Yoga can give you independence from equipment! You don’t need any special gear to practice basic yoga, and you can do it anywhere. And that’s the beauty! Many people instantly connect yoga with spirituality, but while it can guide you towards a spiritual path, it is also a robust physical activity. Those who practice yoga understand how intense it can be. For example, performing 10 Surya Namaskars back-to-back is an intense aerobic exercise that leaves you tired. A lot asanas requires strength which will help you built muscles! Happy yog diwas! Ps- I recently spoke with a friend who is a yoga teacher, and he mentioned how international students approach yoga classes with enthusiasm and a genuine interest in the practice. I’m happy that something from India is becoming so popular, and I encourage my Indian followers to invest in yoga. Don’t dismiss it as a boring activity! Give it a try😗

Yoga is a profound discovery, and a timeless gift that has been passed down through generations. It predates us, began at the start of the universe, and will continue long after we are gone. While modern perceptions of yoga often revolve around physical postures, historically, the essence of yoga was rooted in the mind and our connection to nature. The physical practices were merely tools to prepare for the other 97% of the practice, which included Pranayama, chanting, and meditation (pratyahara leading to dharana practices) In the systematic process of meditation, you move further inwards, traversing all the levels of your being. With each step, you gain mastery, until you finally reach your true nature, transcending all levels. This journey and the realization of your center of consciousness is the essence of Yoga. Most important, keep practicing! 💫

Parasana/Great One ~ Yoga practices are like words or letters that can be seen as material but when passed down through the disciplic succession from the realized siddha or divine avatar in certain order and context they have power to purify and transcend the consciousness. In modern yoga, practices, mantras and teachings of the scriptures are twisted and taken out from their original context as essential parts of the descending spiritual process. This is why modern yoga creates mainly two kinds of outcomes: those who believe in yoga and those who see it as material - believers and skeptics. In traditional yoga message in a form of words and practices is accepted as same generation after generation and thus message is spiritual: yoga creates seers. Is yoga practice spiritual or material depends essentially on from whom and how it is received.

Yoga is estimated to be a 5000-year-old practice, it is important and interesting to note that one of the most influential scriptures (yoga sutras of Patanjali) pays reference to only one physical pose within its texts and that is a seated pose for meditation. Physical practice did not become a part of yoga until approximately 200 years ago, meaning that yoga has existed for 4800 years without any movement practice. My desire is to challenge the misconception that yoga is just physical movement where you are required to be able to touch your toes and execute the most complex poses, whilst looking “Instagram perfect”, and replace this narrative with the principle that yoga is a system which enables you to master your mind, through the practice of meditation, breathing techniques (pranayama) and physical movement (asana) all of which can be accessible to anybody who wishes to practice both on and off their yoga mat. As Krishnamacharya stated “If you can breathe you can do yoga”

Yoga! The layman only knows asanas. But that is hatha yoga. Patanjali in his Yoga Shastra treatise actually devotes only one of his almost 200 sutras to asanas, 3 words actually: 'Sthiram Sukham Asanam' - that which is steady and comfortable is asana (for meditation, etc). Even the yoga class as we know it has been changing in our time, more so after Covid. There is more stretching movements (needed as lifestyles become sedentary), a bigger relaxation component - even short yoga nidra as stressors threaten to overwhelm us. Of course, now there is 'virtual' yoga. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eh9E7n3g

Yoga brings the body and mind together and is built on three main elements – movement, breathing and meditation. Yoga has many physical and mental health benefits including improved posture, flexibility, strength, balance and body awareness. YOGA is “Y our Objectives Guidelines and Assessment”.The word 'Yoga' is derived from the Sanskrit root 'Yuj', meaning 'to join' or 'to yoke' or 'to unite'. Shiva is also known as Adiyogi (the first Yogi), regarded as the patron god of yoga, meditation and the arts. In general, yoga practice is recommended in the morning or the early evening. A morning yoga session can be quite active and consist of a full practice. Always finish with Savasana (Corpse Pose), no matter what time of day or season your practice. The Yog Sutras present a comprehensive and systematic approach to the practice and study of yoga. They provide guidance not just on the physical postures but on ethical living, meditation and the ultimate aim of realising one’s true nature. The first sutra of the Yoga Sutras by Patanjali is: अथ योगानुशासनम्( Atha yogānuśāsanam.) is the first sutra from Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras which means “Now begins the instruction of yoga “. The second sutra of the Yoga Sutras by Patanjali is: योगश्चित्तवृत्तिनिरोधः (Yogaś citta-vṛtti-nirodhaḥ.) This sutra can be translated to mean “Yoga is the cessation of the modifications of the mind.” It provides the essence of what yoga aims to achieve: a stillness or quieting of the mind and its fluctuations.
