The lesson that has taken me the longest to learn… Is that of prioritising my health. I have suffered from chronic headaches ever since my early 20’s. It means I have a headache almost every single day. I go into hospital 3 times a year to have a procedure which helps me manage the pain. This ensures on a scale of 1-10 I generally keep the pain at a 2/3. 18 months ago I went through a really bad time and my health nosedived. The headaches were consistently an 8/9 and became quite debilitating. I literally couldn’t see straight. It also meant that I wasn’t sleeping properly. This exacerbated my seizure disorder. I was having a seizure every couple of weeks. I felt completely broken. As a horsey person my answer to most things in life is just to kick on. I never had a desire to kick back. Until it was forced on me. It was hard because I have always tied so much of my value to work. Too much of my value frankly. But work simply cannot always be the priority. And that’s more than ok. Fast forward 18 months my head feels great. And as of last week I am one year seizure free. Yay me. Now I kick on.
brave to share this, thank you
That's great news - glad you're feeling better! There's a difficult balance sometimes between "battling on" and taking the necessary steps to stay healthy. I feel health should come first, as unless you're healthy you can't really show up in any other part of your life to your fullest.
Such a critical life lesson Wendy I’m just sorry it had to get so bad before it got better 💔 I wish more then anything else that organisations and leaders truly prioritised employee wellbeing (mental and physical) and didn’t just talk about it
Health = Wealth We can let others determine what they perceive as our success or we can determine this for ourselves 🫶🏻
I am so sorry you have to go through this... And I can totally relate, I do think work is often my medicine until it isn't anymore but I've been lucky enough to work with incredible people who have always worshipped their health. And that helps a lot!
Wow, sounds really hard Wendy, so glad you’re feeling better! I had some chronic issues tank my health a few years ago and it was one of the worst things you can go through. Thankfully we learn to slow down and care for our bodies better. Great post!
This is incredible to hear Wendy, delighted you have been 1 year seizure free! + that you are putting on your own oxygen mask first, before putting on somebody else’s 🙌
Thank you for sharing your story, Wendy Harris - so happy to hear you are recovering and congratulations on your one-year anniversary!
That is brilliant news - well done you for looking after yourself!

2wI remember seeing the impact these had on you. Makes me so happy to hear they are now receding into the past. Lessons like these are exactly the reason I focus on the brain, body and business on the podcast. Too much narrative focuses on "The business" and not the founder or executive running it.
