How to start my career in Semiconductor manufacturing related companies

Quality Organizations in USA Semiconductor Corporations In a recent conversation with a Couple of US Senators a topic of quality practices in US corporations I was asked how does the US semi companies cover Quality: I was unable to make a clear response based on my 35 yrs of Quality experience. Since five minutes prior to that question I had just finished another conversation with a high tech corporation design Engineer. He was filling me in on the widespread elimination of Quality Organizations in US based companies. I was shocked to learn that according to his information even Texas Instruments had eliminated a Quality Division. Apparently even if is a conflict of interest quality has been delegated to manufacturing. Kind of like the Fox guarding the chicken coop. It would be great if I could get input from semi companies out in the global and US to see how Quality is organized in their companies.

Supply Chain is much more than just buying. Supply Chain is verifying, securing and understanding all the links of the value chain. We need to understand the value and risk of the product. Factories, owners, technology, management, tests, environment, distribution, Lean, quality etc. Knowledge gives us a much better Total Cost than just buying. Makes the difference of surviving a semiconductor crises. The photo is unflattering but visiting Texas Instruments wafer fab in Freising was important in so many ways. How electronics is so complex with long manufacturing times. All this complexity but still it is the people that makes the difference. People that are skilled and know what they are doing.
