“The idea came to me when I was living in an SRO. It got so hot and I didn’t have a fan. I ended up sleeping outside on a bench two blocks away from the SRO near a courtyard because I couldn’t sleep. “One of those nights, I was dreaming of living in a normal house.” https://lnkd.in/gBJATxj3 — via South Side Weekly Read the full story on Red Line Service in Pilsen, “a community of Chicago artists with lived experiences of #homelessness collaborating with professional artists,” part of the Segregation and Migrant Crisis Reporting Project, managed by Public Narrative and supported by a #HealingIllinois grant. The organization connects professional artists with artists who have lived experience of #homelessness. For many of the artists who work with Red Line Service, being able to connect with the community is meaningful, especially to connect with those as marginalized as the unhoused. Currently teaming up with the University of Miami School of Law, the organization is hosting a printmaking project exploring #housing insecurity. The graphics will be available online for housing advocates nationally to use in housing rights campaigns. I am humbled to share with you the Children Thrive Action Network (CTAN)’s latest report, “If the parents are okay, the children are okay”: Common themes from 2022-2023 CTAN listening sessions with immigrant parents and youth. This report spotlights the perspectives of 71 immigrant parents and youth from seven listening sessions held nationwide on the issues they find to be most important and those they would like CTAN to prioritize. The Children Thrive Action Network (CTAN)’s goal is to center children in mixed-status families on immigration and intersecting issues, envisioning a society where all children, regardless of race, ethnicity, nationality, income, ability, or religion, have equal opportunity to grow and thrive. Stay tuned for updates to our action plan in the coming months! https://lnkd.in/evtSHgb7

Dive into the European Committee of Social Rights 2023 conclusions and findings on Children, Family and Migrants. In its conclusions, the #ECSR dealt inter alia with issues such as: 🔹 child poverty 🔹 child labour & inadequate prohibition of employment under the age of 15 🔹 protection of children from all forms of violence, including exploitation and abuse in the digital environment, in particular sexual exploitation and abuse and solicitation for sexual purposes (grooming) In its findings in respect of 8 states (Belgium, Bulgaria, Finland, France, Greece, Ireland, Italy, and Portugal), the ECSR underlined that inclusive education for #children with intellectual disabilities remains persistent problem for which measurable progress needs to be achieved in order to bring the situation in those countries into conformity with the European Social Charter. #ChildRights #childprotection #childpoverty #childlabour #CoE4Children

403,004 children (33.9 %) are living in risk of poverty or social exclusion in Bulgaria. Children from marginalised communities, including many Roma, and children with disabilities are among the ones currently placed in out-of-family state sponsored care due to the persisting failure to apply the ‘necessity principle’ in child-family separations. There is a serious discrepancy between the general child poverty rate and that of children from different ethnic backgrounds – 37.5% children of Turkish and 69.4% of Roma backgrounds are growing up in poverty. #Roma #childrights #poverty
#Roma constitute the largest ethnic minority group in Europe!🔵☸️🟢 According to Eurochild members' inputs in our latest report Children’s Rights: Political will or won’t?, #RomaChildren are still disproportionally affected by the lack of access to essential services❌ 📣Like all other children, they should receive support that enhances their vivacity, wit, and creativity, and allows them to grow up in healthy family environments. At Define American, we partner with thought leaders and media professionals to create an America where everyone belongs. This month, we brought together 40 of the leading researchers, academics, strategists, and advocates for our research summit on “Interdisciplinary Approaches to Combating Online Xenophobia.” Define American was founded 12 years ago at the intersection of narrative change and immigration advocacy. In that time, our efforts to humanize immigrant experiences have reached hundreds of millions of people across the country—and we’re not done yet! We've organized immigrant artists and partnered with media creators to seed research-driven, nuanced immigrant stories on television and in film. Help us continue our work humanizing the immigrant narrative. We wouldn't be able to do it without you.
