Today, team members from our African American Leadership business resource group are celebrating Juneteenth with local events in Chicago, including the Onyx 360 Wellness Freedom Day Walk/Run in Washington Park and a day of activities at the iconic DuSable Museum of African American History and Education Center, both events sponsored by Walgreens.
Walgreens celebrates the diversity of our company, team members and customers. We are proud to honor the day that all people were declared free and commit to creating a path of inclusivity for all.

🌟 Celebrating the Last Day of Black History Month! 🌟
As we close out Black History Month, it’s crucial to reflect on how we can continue fostering diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) within our organizations every day of the year. One impactful way to embed DEIB into the fabric of our teams and individuals is through the deployment of Team Coaching.
By embracing team coaching, we not only promote collaboration and understanding, but also ensure that everyone’s voices are heard and valued. It’s about fostering an environment where each member feels empowered to contribute their unique perspectives and experiences.
🔹 Does your team have the right partner to help drive this crucial initiative?
🔹 Is your leadership prepared to embed team coaching into your organizational cultures, championing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging at every turn?
If not, we’re here to assist. Visit the link in the comments to learn how team coaching (among other exciting leadership development trends!) is driving business outcomes.👇

🌟 Did you know leadership can be a powerful tool in dismantling racism? 🌟
This Black History Month, let's shine a light on the imperative role leaders play in advocating for equity and justice within their industries.
Leaders, it's time to turn introspection into action. Start by diagnosing your organization's internal environment. Utilize analytics to ensure your diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice (DEIJ) strategies are rooted in evidence. Align these strategies with your business objectives, making equity and justice a core part of your organization's DNA.
But let's not stop there. Engage with your community and stand up for social justice values. Whether it's through education, policy initiatives, or bold leadership actions, every step taken is a step toward a more equitable future.
👉 Here's a tip: Identify and support race equity champions within your organization. Encourage these leaders to use their voices to foster a culture of inclusivity and fairness.
🚀 Action Step: Conduct a DEI focus group this month. Listen, learn, and strategize on how to make your workplace more inclusive.
Let's use our platforms to advocate for change, not just this month, but every day. Together, we can create a ripple effect of positive change. #LeadersForJustice#EquityInAction#BlackHistoryMonth

Be an ally, be a changemaker, be a leader.
During the first week of Black History Month, I reflected on my journey, recognizing the privilege I’ve navigated life with. But of course life isn't about awareness—it's about action. As a leader, my role extends beyond mentorship; it's about being a steadfast ally and a vocal force for change.
The shift in our world demands an evolution in leadership—a shift from passive acknowledgment to active advocacy. With every decision, I'm committed to fostering inclusivity, championing diversity, and ensuring our workplace not only invites but amplifies every voice, especially those historically underrepresented.
It might sound idealistic, but I stand by it. Every challenge is indeed an opportunity—not just to inspire, but to enact tangible change. Together, we can create a future where leadership is synonymous with empathy and inclusivity—a future where we all thrive.

Leadership and DEI: Beyond a Month, Beyond Black and White
As we delve into Black History Month, it's a great time to reflect on the critical role of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in the workplace as an observance and a continuous leadership commitment. DEI is a concept that has been discussed previously, but its importance has never been more evident. Studies, including those by McKinsey & Company and Deloitte, have consistently shown that diverse companies are more likely to outperform their less diverse counterparts financially. But the benefits of DEI extend beyond financial metrics; it's about fostering an environment where EVERY employee feels seen, valued, and heard.
Leaders play a pivotal role in embedding DEI into the corporate culture. It's not just about policies and programs; it's about leading by example, challenging our unconscious biases, and making a conscious effort every day to listen, learn, and act inclusively.
As we celebrate Black History Month, let it be a reminder that DEI work is year-round. It's about creating a workplace where everyone can thrive regardless of background. It's about understanding that our differences make us stronger, more creative, and more innovative.
As leaders, our responsibility is to ensure DEI is not just a checkbox but a core part of our daily operations and strategic decisions. It's about ensuring our hiring, promotion, and team-building efforts reflect our diverse world.
Let’s embrace DEI, not just because it's proven to increase revenue but because it makes us better LEADERS, better TEAMS, and better HUMANS. I challenge you to take actionable steps towards a more inclusive workplace where everyone feels they belong. DEI IS LEADERSHIP.
