We wanted to experience firsthand what it takes to fine-tune a Large Language Model (LLM) with company-specific data and see if it is useful. So, we built one at Millrock AI Why even bother? Here are some potential benefits: 💡 Right Fit: Imagine having a chat with AI that understands exactly what your business is about. Customizing LLMs means your AI tools think and talk more like they're part of your team. 💡 Privacy: Running your own LLMs locally gives you control over your data. 💡 Always Improving: With your hands on the wheel, you can steer AI towards new ideas or improvements whenever needed. 💡 Saving Bucks: Why pay a fortune for something when you can use open-source software at a fraction of the cost? It's worth giving it a quick try, right? 🔎 Here is how we did it: ▶ Used a MacBook Pro with an M1 chip and 16GB of memory to run the model. ▶ Downloaded an open-source Large Language Model (LLM), #llama2 13B by #meta from #huggingface . ▶ Gathered a couple of different datasets to train the model. ▶ Bribed a developer wizard and a cool dude to handle the coding. ▶ Spent some random hours figuring out the easiest process. ▶ Spent between 2-5 hours on the actual fine-tuning with the MacBook, depending on the dataset size. How it turned out? Nicely! We ended up with a model that recognises our data and responds to our requests with good accuracy in just few hours. Simple as that. Case closed and off we go. ☑ Definitely going to continue this lightweight customization experimentation with these tools, build more custom apps and, hopefully soon, even whole systems around them. Looks like this is where the real value lies for companies. Learning and finding the best use cases by building yourself is awesome.
