I have discovered a new form of team builder:
Can I promote a play on here? I'm so thrilled to be a part of the incredible cast of "An Experiment with an Air Pump" at The Island Theater. Opening night is just 4 days away, with performances May 3-12. We've been working hard to make sure we do this script justice—one that fearlessly explores issues of ethics and gender and art and science, and demands its audience do the same. I'm biased, sure, but it really is a great one! If you're in the Jacksonville area, come out to The Island Theater this weekend or next to support me and us and the performing arts. Tickets are on sale now at www.theislandtheater.com. (FYI this show is not for children.)

Take the empty space. #wednesdaywisdom Call it whitespace, a gap or opening, call it a margin. Whatever you call it… it is opportunity. I read Peter Brook’s THE EMPTY SPACE a few times. Published in 1968, it’s still a great book today, particularly if you are in the performing arts. Highly recommend. If you aren’t involved in theatre it may not be worth the read; but you can certainly gain inspiration by some of its concepts. Particularly this theory by Brook: “A stage space has two rules: (1) Anything can happen and (2) Something must happen.” SOMETHING MUST HAPPEN The inevitability of “the empty space” being filled in some way provokes us to ask ourselves: “How am I going to SHAPE it?” When we start to look at CREATING as SHAPING, we have inertia on our side and our task can be less daunting. Anything can and something must happen with our: Salesforce pipeline Property branding Recruiting efforts LinkedIn content Tradeshow hours Discovery calls Google slide deck Lease renewal letters Podcast recordings Salesloft campaign Property design and blueprint It WILL happen. How are we SHAPING what happens? What empty spaces are YOU claiming? Take the stage, my friends! #motivation #multifamily #sales #theatre

If you knew that more turbulent times were approaching, how might you prepare yourself? Doug Casey has solid advice for surviving and thriving in the coming crisis, even if your means are modest. The racists of the past and the anti-racists of today both believe that a person's skin color tells them everything they need to know about how to treat that person. Paul Rosenberg explains the desperation of anti-white racism. The online world is abuzz with discussion of last night's State of the Union address. Michael Herman reminds us that what was televised last night was nothing more than a show. This is going to raise some ire but it's a topic worth exploring: Do traffic tickets make us drive more safely? Economist Peter Jacobsen has an answer worth considering. Article of the Day: Alexander Solzhenitsyn was a remarkable source of hard-won wisdom. Barry Brownstein has an enlightening essay on why Solzhenitsyn's line between good and evil matters. Theatre Communications Group upgraded me to a solo presentation at the national theater conference, and I love their description! "As nonprofit arts organizations we are fed the narrative that our most lucrative programs or productions are often the least mission-aligned, and vice versa: that our most mission-aligned work is the least beneficial for our bottom line. Out Of Hand Theater's story paints a different picture: we have developed a model that has tripled our income in four years while moving our neighbors to action on important issues and elevating the role of theater in our community. It’s a win for art, a win for business, and a win for our community... This session will illustrate more about this unique model, and generate further conversation about how to serve our bottom lines by centering our communities and harnessing our greatest potential for impact."
