🏁🇪🇺 🏎️ at the intersection of #Sanctions and #Formula1, the Nikita Dmitrievich Mazepin case is bringing some insights on how relatives of sanctioned individuals could be delisted, and their private life safeguarded based on the #ruleoflaw principles. 👁🗨 On 19 September 2023, the President of the General Court made an order for provisional interim relief pursuant to Article 157(2) of the Rules of Procedure of the EU General Court, in Case T-743/22 RIII, Nikita Dmitrievich Mazepin v. Council of the European Union. 💬 Respect to private life through providing conditions to maintain his professional activity: " the name of Mr Mazepin will be maintained on the list of persons, entities and bodies covered by those restrictive measures and only to the extent necessary to enable him to negotiate his recruitment as a professional Formula 1 driver or as a driver in other motor sport championships taking place also or only in the European Union, as well as to participate in Formula 1 Grand Prix, tests, training sessions and free sessions and in other motor sport championships, races, tests, training sessions and free sessions taking place in the European Union." 🔛 As a son of a listed #oligarch - and very often criticized by his peers, as eventually not being qualified for such a competition - he is not authorized to negotiate and conclude agreements with a race team or with sponsors not linked to the activities of Mr Dmitry Arkadievich Mazepin or to natural or legal persons whose names are included on the lists set out in the annexes to Decision 2014/145 and Regulation No 269/2014. 💲 On a #financial side, several measures offering a kind of "specific license".  (vi) to open a bank account in which a salary, bonuses, benefits from his race team and financial contributions from the sponsors accepted by his team can be paid to him and, (vii) to use the bank account and a credit card only to cover those costs that enable a professional driver to travel in the European Union, to negotiate and conclude agreements with a race team or with sponsors, to participate in championships, Grand Prix, races, training sessions, tests or free sessions in the Member States of the European Union, and to follow a programme of medical checks and training sessions. 🏳️ As for other profesional athletes, he will have to race under a neutral flag. I have a few tickets for the Olympics in Paris so really looking forward to seeing some great races! However, I have a real issue with the fact that you can only use VISA cards at the locations. This is due to VISA being the preferred partner for the Olympics. For the thousands visiting a new country new locations, they also need to check their cards and phones to see if their Bank has provided a Visa or MasterCard. If it is the latter, they need to get cash or find a kiosk and obtain a prepaid visa card! More hassle and time consumed when you just want to pay for something whilst enjoying the event. What a total selfish attitude from a monopoly provider. No wonder many people believe we need more competition in the card market!! But we should also blame the Olympic organisers ( a non profit organisation) for allowing this! By all means have VISA advertising, an Olympic pre paid VISA card etc but actively stopping 40% of (Europe wide) cards being able to be used is wrong! Rant over! The VISA CashApp RB F1 Team partnership network have not grown in size when we look at the number of partners. Fact is the number of partners is lower now than in 2023. But it is a different network, a stronger network than 2023. The VISA Cash App RB F1 network has been compared to the Haas F1 network, because the two teams have the lowest number of partners. Haas F1 have 16 partners and VISA CashApp RB F1 Team have 17 partners. Williams Racing is also in the same category, with 18 partners. But there is a difference: 👉 Haas F1 average revenue (all partners) is around $3 bn 👉 VISA Cash App RB F1 average revenue (all partners) is around $23 bn The team brought in two (2) new strong US-partners, VISA and CashApp, strengthening the network a lot, but USA is still one behind Germany when we look at the countries on the network. Germany is actually a surprise number one. This is one of the partnership networks to keep an eye on. It has developed a lot and it will be interesting to follow the next steps.
