Cancer is the second-leading cause of death in the United States, and recent trends are not encouraging. In addition to a puzzling increase in #cancer mortality in the 35-44 age cohort, the response to the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in missed cancer screenings and delayed diagnoses, leading to more advanced-stage cancer cases. Understanding these trends is increasingly important for every health economy stakeholder. Today, we released new Compass+ resources – including our 2024 Oncology Report and new interactive dashboards -- to help health economy stakeholders answer key questions: ▪️How is cancer incidence and mortality changing over time? ▪️How are oncology patient characteristics changing? ▪️How is oncology screening and treatment changing? ▪️What are trends in oncology provider supply? ▪️How are novel treatment paradigms influencing the oncology market? ▪️What is the value-based care landscape in oncology? ▪️How is #oncology spending impacting patients and influencing healthcare costs? Subscribers to the Enterprise Plus tier can access the 2024 Oncology Report, interactive dashboards and more strategic resources in the Compass+ portal. https://hubs.ly/Q02G3y760

A recent WHO study predicts over 35 million new diagnosed cases of cancer by 2050. There is a major need to optimize cancer care to improve outcomes and quality of life. By providing more in-depth information on cancer than ever before, advanced diagnostics could play a critical role in improving outcomes. They can, for example, be used to support earlier and more accurate diagnosis and the selection of highly tailored treatments that are more likely to be effective. We are thrilled to collaborate with industry leaders, alongside The Health Policy Partnership (#HPP), to develop a new report that outlines the policy actions needed to prepare health systems for the future of cancer diagnosis. The report, ‘Powering the future of cancer care with advanced diagnostics’, details the potential for these innovative techniques to transform outcomes for people with cancer, and outlines five priority areas where policymakers can support the widespread adoption of advanced diagnostics. 🔎 Read the report and find out more: https://lnkd.in/dm4RV-GR AstraZeneca | GE HealthCare | Ibex Medical Analytics | The Health Policy Partnership | Thomas Di Maio | Vijay Andani #HealthEquity #DataDrivenMedicine #PrecisionMedicine #AdvancedDiagnostics

Cancer care is expensive, and mistreating patients adds to that expense, particularly in human costs. When patients with rare or complex cancers have access to care at a comprehensive cancer center, they often experience better outcomes at lower costs. Data show significant differences in outcomes, including survival, when a patient is seen in an NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center versus non-academic settings. In the last 10 years, the field of oncology has undergone transformational change. Advances in our understanding of genomics have spearheaded an overhaul in our approach to cancer diagnosis, treatment and monitoring. Today, our managed care programs often create barriers to such access, and this can lead to misdiagnoses and mistreatment that can often mean unnecessary exposure to toxic chemotherapy, suffering or avoidable death. These outcomes can be avoided with effective policy. The transformative role of digital health innovations in cancer care is a hot topic at #ASCO24 in Chicago, one of the most significant gatherings of oncologists worldwide. Even as 5-year cancer survival rates have increased, the rates of more than a dozen cancers are rapidly rising around the world among adults under age 50. Models based on global data predict the number of early-onset cancer cases will increase by 30% by 2030. In the U.S., colorectal cancer has become the leading cause of cancer death among men under 50. It’s the second leading cause of cancer death in young women. #Digitalhealth solutions can play a significant role in cancer care, earlier detection, and more effective prevention. 🧬 #AI-driven diagnostics can facilitate earlier and more accurate detection 🧬 #Telemedicine platforms can bridge distance gaps to secure more timely consultations 🧬 #Quantum technologies can accelerate drug discovery and the development of personalized drug treatment plans 🧬 #Bigdata analytics can shape and sharpen treatment plans (a big discussion point at ASCO), supported by a steady flow of data from wearables and remote patient monitoring technologies 🧬 #Mobileapps for mental health support can be tailored to support cancer patients (a lot of energy around this as an under-discussed and under-served component of cancer care) As our Ascent Strategy Group team makes the rounds, presents our new tools, and establishes new collaborations, we’ve been lifted by the passion among attendees to serve patients. That passion is palpable, powerful and inspirational. #oncology #oncologists #cancercare

New Cancer Diagnosis Hitting Record Highs, Driven by Disturbing Increase Among Young People Cancer is on the rise in the U.S., most notably among people under 50 years old, according to a new study. The American Cancer Society on Wednesday published the results of a survey of data, concluding that the country should expect to see more than 2 million new diagnosis of cancer in 2024. The study also estimated that roughly 612,000 people will die of cancer in 2024, a small increase from last year. There was some good news in the study: cancer rate dropped slightly among those 65 and older, and Americans in the 50-64 age group saw their rates of the disease "largely stable" over the last three decades. Notably, people aged younger than 50 years were the only one of these three age groups to experience an increase in overall cancer incidence during this time period, the survey said. #opportunities #strategy #programming #design #team #research #data #health #development #collaboration #projects #testing #immunotherapy #cancer #technology #biotechnology #healthcare #medicine #oncology #precisionmedicine #liquidbiopsy #rna #dna #venturecapital #startup #immunooncology #tcells #innovation #growth #tech #lifesciences #biopharma #oncodxrx

Increasingly, cancer is becoming a chronic disease among working Canadians. In fact, two out of five Canadians are expected to develop cancer in their lifetime, and many of those diagnoses will occur in working Canadians between the ages of 20 - 65. At Pfizer, we continue to take bold new approaches to translate scientific research into new medicines for people living with cancer. We also firmly believe appropriate cancer care can significantly impact the lives of patients. This is why we are committed to ensuring our colleagues are well supported should they experience a cancer diagnosis and have broad access to novel treatments if they need them.
