Over my 30+ years in the #workplace, I've seen a lot of changes. One of the best? The growing diversity within our teams. I mean that. I've found it's made our companies stronger, more creative, and genuinely connected to the world around us. And Televerde offers a next-level view into the importance of #DEI. I've heard the arguments against dedicating months to celebrate specific histories, including Black History Month. Some say it divides us, but I see it differently. These months aren't about segregating our history. To me, they're about enriching it. They offer us a chance to spotlight stories and contributions that have been overlooked or undervalued. They challenge us to think, question, and grow. More importantly, they help us evolve the narratives in our own heads—breaking down stigmas and building a deeper understanding of each other's experiences. That's important. It’s important to remember why so many of us are off, cozy and not working today It’s important to remember that almost everything we use, a Black person probably invented, or did first It’s important to remember that Black women are the ones who started almost every look, aesthetic and fashion trend you have ever seen or worn It’s important to remember how millions of Black and brown people have been murdered, their history stolen and white washed and this country’s “great economy and infrastructure” was built off their backs. Period It’s important to remember the systems that work exactly as they are designed, are still working “exactly as they should” today. white supremacy is at the core of it all It’s important to remember the lack of representation of Black and Brown people in almost every industry, every career, every space It’s important to remember that when Black and Brown people create space for themselves, and their community and “make it” to the c suite, to the presidents circle, to the leadership roles - that these same systems (and people) of oppression push them out It’s important to remember that despite all odds and systems that work against and profit off of them, so many keep pushing: raising the bar starting businesses advocating for change creating art & products breaking generational curses bring love, culture and magic into spaces + so much more Personally, I wouldn’t be where I am in my career today without the diversity of my network, and the amazing humans I have met I have: leaned so much felt so much grown so much Thankful for so many who have educated me for free, as I have learned to be an ally, and the grace I received when I have failed - Sad for the way things are Hopeful for the way things can be We need change We need to fight We need to continue his legacy How?
