Wow - Apple is shipping Thread across iPads and Macs! We designed Thread at Nest back in 2013. Our very own Grant Erickson lead the dev work & industry partnerships, Isabel Guenette Thornton named it, Matteo Vianello and colleen piché designed the logo and Anton Oenning was point on Messaging & MarCom. As The Verge Jennifer Pattison Tuohy said about me in her article a couple years back (and yes it remains true!) I’m 'excited about the validation of Thread as a kid at Christmas.' It also reminds me how long deep tech takes for broad adoption. But, when it’s the right thing, it’s the right thing.

It is amazing to see how Apple, Amazon, and Google are all trying to get "things" in the home to network together without understanding the issues behind the incompatibility nature to the smart home market space. Why would this play be different for Apple if some of their smart phones already have thread? Is their some data metric they found out that says people buy and incorporate more smart home products in their homes because their iPhone have thread embedded into the phone? You have to understand the market from the consumer perspective, not a technological corporate approach to the market. Curious to ask: How many average consumers actually know and understand what thread is?? Just my thoughts and opinion.

Took a while, but we made it happen like we'd promised! And Michele Chambers Turner also played a big part!

I’ve been urging friends and family who are building onto their smart homes to invest in thread. “It may not be a big deal yet, but in a few years…” I tell them. Happy to see that reality taking shape.

It’s also a ‘hidden’ feature in the iPhone 15 pro :) I’ve used it for years in HomePod mini & with Nanoleaf bulbs. Low latency and easy to set up, what’s not to like :)
