Early in my career I would preach the value of strategic planning while doing very little of it And now that is a core part of my life, I cannot stress how important People, YOUR team, shapes the strategic vision of an organization Right talent, right place and at the right time A few notes from an upcoming blog post about Strategic Planning - how it almost sunk in the early days PeopleLift and how it is a competitive advantage for us moving foward. Why do we place so much priority on planning cycles? Strategic #workforce planning ensures we have the right talent in the right place at the right time to meet our evolving needs because this #market is anything but 'ordinary'. I enable people to enable other people and themselves by applying my skills in change management, workshop facilitation and strategy. I also really, really care about children and youth mental health.
I used to believe strategy planning and execution were straight forward. 1. Plan 2. Execute What I’ve come to realize though is that step 2 is loaded with assumptions. Strategy execution assumes the business is primed for it and more importantly, the people responsible for the execution are happy, healthy, engaged, aligned, and growing. Because, if not happy, they’re discouraged. If not healthy, they’re burnt out or off sick. If not engaged, they’re quitting silently. If not aligned, they’re going rogue. If not growing, they’re complacent. I also bet they’re not at all executing effectively on the strategy. So, in many ways, a happy, healthy, engaged, aligned and growing workforce is a dependency for effective strategy execution. In other words, the people responsible for strategy execution (i.e., every person in the organization) should be at the heart of strategy planning. We should prime the organization (people) before we can plan and execute. And if you're like every other organization on the planet, you're constantly executing, so you might as well keep at it. 1. Prime (constantly) 2. Plan 3. Execute In my experience, steps 2 and 3 feel so much harder when step 1 is skipped. Prime your people. Make sure they’re happy, healthy, engaged, aligned and growing. #strategyexecution #peoplestrategy

Why do companies struggle to complete and execute their Strategic Plans? Many companies and leadership get stuck at the beginning of the process, feel its too complicated, or believe they are too busy with work to actually take the time to sit down, reflect and develop a strategic plan. Or sometimes its the "its like herding kittens" to get everyone aligned. As we move into the last quarter of 2023, we should be reflecting on what our focus needs to be to deliver on this years strategic priorities....what can we impact and what can we not. Adjust and refine as needed....strategic plans should be living, breathing documents and evolve through the year. AND, we should be working to define the Strategic Plan for 2024 and beyond. Don't let a lack of understanding the strategic planning process, gaining alignment or setting and keeping your goals prevent you from execution! If needed, look for external help to assist with expertise to guide you through the process. #strategicplanning #execution

The art of strategy cascading is the thread that weaves vision into reality. It's a process that takes grand, high-level strategies and translates them into actionable plans at every organizational level. Proper cascading is crucial for the following reasons: - Alignment: Strategy cascading ensures that everyone within an organization is rowing in the same direction. It aligns individual and team goals with the overarching strategy, fostering unity of purpose. - Clarity: Cascading clarifies roles and responsibilities, leaving no room for ambiguity. When everyone knows their part in the grand plan, productivity soars. - Ownership: It empowers individuals and teams to take ownership of their piece of the strategy puzzle. This sense of ownership fuels motivation and accountability. - Adaptability: As strategies evolve, cascading allows for quick adjustments at all levels. It's a dynamic process that keeps organizations adapt in a constantly changing landscape. - Measuring Progress: Cascading creates a structured framework for tracking progress and KPIs. This data-driven approach helps organizations stay on course and make informed decisions. The art of strategy cascading is where strategy becomes actionable and tangible. It's where vision turns into execution. When executed effectively, it becomes the foundation upon which success is built. In a world of complexity and constant change, mastering the art of strategy cascading is a skill that separates great strategists from the rest. It's the compass guiding them through the maze of challenges and opportunities, leading to a brighter, more prosperous future. #StrategyCascading #BusinessStrategy #StrategyConsulting

I believe strategic planning is crucial for every organization, whether expanding into new markets, launching innovative products, considering an acquisition, or revamping the business structure. An effective plan sets the stage for success. However, developing the plan can be a challenge. Meetings often go off-topic, executives juggle roles, and discussions get stuck on tactics rather than objectives. Plus, great ideas can get lost in the noise. I'm here to streamline the process and ensure your strategic planning is both effective and efficient. Digital Marketer & Process Improvement NERD - I help companies improve their systems and processes, amplify their voice, increase awareness and drive leads.
The 'big picture' isn't about looking at what’s right in front of you, it’s about understanding how the parts fit together. Building a successful organization requires the ability to not only manage individual projects but also see how they intersect and impact the overall goal. You need to identify roles and responsibilities, ensure they align with your business strategy, and regularly evaluate their efficacy. In other words, you can’t manage what you can’t measure. You can’t scale what you haven’t clearly defined. Remember – Every piece matters when it comes to completing the puzzle of organizational success. Let's work together to find your missing pieces. #BusinessScaling
