"History is not just written by the winners, it's written about them."
- Steve Rushin
Winning is important in sports, but it's also important at a new job.
Getting 'early wins' can be the difference between keeping your job and getting fired in 6-12 months. So, it's important to know how to get them.
Here's 4 tips I recommend keeping in mind.

Forbesโs article on addressing weaknesses in a management interview aligns with my experience as an educator and mental health therapist-in-training. ๐๐พ๐ฆ
Transparency about weaknesses, while ensuring they're not role-critical, resonates with the authentic dialogue I encourage in therapy sessions.
Actively working on a weakness is a process I'm familiar with, especially in developing my own entrepreneurial skills.
I've learned, much like the article suggests, to frame challenges as opportunities for growth.
The STAR method is an excellent tool for structuring responses, a technique I often use in reflective teaching practices.
It's crucial to end positively, focusing on how our strengths align with our roles.
๐ค How can we apply this method to turn our vulnerabilities into strengths, not just in interviews but in our daily professional lives?
Here you are, one of the fortunate shortlisted candidates for a management position, being considered internally for a promotion, or externally for career progression. Perhaps one of the trickiest curveball questions that could make or break your chances of securing the role is, "What are your weaknesses?" or "What's your greatest weakness?" https://trib.al/kUh5gvB
This week I got to be a part of one of our INSURICA Rockstar's presentations. Colton Zajac really made me think.
Winning The Talent War addressed 4 big HR issues. Culture, Career Development, Compensation and Benefits. Of course Benefits should be the one I would think is the most important since that is my career, right? But when I thought about it personally, that is not where I landed.
๐ต I don't want to work for free....no one does, so Compensation should be my number one right? But that also has not completely shaped my past decisions.
Well then it should be Career Development. We all want to move up and be recognized for our good work. However in looking back on my career path, I don't see that was my deciding factor.
Looks like it is Culture for me. I spend most of my weekdays working and having that positive environment, where I truly feel valued, not just told I'm valued is so important to me.
๐ก I was however reminded during the amazing discussion, what we desire even within culture changes all the time. One year it can be team and getting together and the next year it can be flexibility and being able to work remotely.
Needs/Desires/Wants are a revolving door. It's important to stay in touch with your employees, your most valuable assets, to know what is important to them. Know what they value and know when that changes. Most importantly change with them.
I enjoyed getting to watch my co worker and mentor share his thoughts on Winning the Talent War in OKC this week! So many good points to expand upon with clients to help them THRIVE! Colton Zajac

In the latest episode of the Path, I sat down with Athletic Greens President and COO Kat Cole to talk about how she went from cleaning gym equipment, working in retail and hostessing, to working her way up to vice president of Hooters at the age of 26.
From Hooters to Cinnabon to Athletic Greens, Kat paved her path to the executive suite through an unwavering sense of ownership and commitment to whatever company sheโs working for.
Kat told me she did it all with an โownerโs mindset.โ Taking initiative, feeling responsible for outcomes, and demonstrating a vested interest in overall successโnot only drives personal growth and development but also fosters an environment of leadership and accountability, which can fast-track the journey up your career ladder.
Watch below to learn more about Kat's inspirational approach to her life and career.
