Health & MHPSS-Coordination- Emergency Response-Health advisor -Public Health -Mental Health- Be kind and a human being always!
Let's continue contributing in the frame of the #EuropeanMentalHealth and #PublicHealth Week! it's crucial to emphasize the importance of #mentalhealth as a fundamental #Publichealth issue. Addressing mental health holistically is essential for advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Mental well-being is intertwined with economic stability, quality education, reduced inequalities, and more. Training in Psychological First Aid (PFA) emerges as a vital public health measure. PFA enables individuals to provide immediate support to those in distress, fostering early action and detection that can prevent major emotional problems. This early intervention is not just a response strategy; it's a proactive approach that can significantly affect public health outcomes. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies - IFRC with 25 #RCRC and the IFRC Reference Centre for Psychosocial Support in the frame of the #EU4HEALTH project advocates for widespread PFA training, underscoring its potential to transform our community support systems. By equipping everyone with the skills to offer immediate emotional support, we can build a more resilient society that actively contributes to the well-being of its members. Let’s champion integrating mental health strategies into public health frameworks to ensure that mental well-being is not just an individual responsibility but a collective priority.! #EropenaMentalHealthWeek #EuropeanPublicHealthWeek #SDGs #PsychologicalFirstAid #IFRC #MentalHealthMatter Basilio Mwangi Aneta Trgacevska Panu Saaristo Alaa Alnasser Amanda Amigues Gulzira Kamytzhanova Sabina Dziadecka Gråbæk Know more about PFA!

Social Capital in the Recovery Pathway to Better than Well. "The approach is based on a strategic commitment to celebrating and promoting recovery through a minimum of four public facing events that are open, accessible and engaging; the result of which is to create new community assets and community connections." David Best https://lnkd.in/eWYrvpBR https://lnkd.in/e6zNCGP2
Welcoming Dr David Best to Recovery Review! "We are at the start of the journey for Inclusive Recovery Cities and we are in the process of identifying appropriate metrics but the model presented here should allow us to develop core metrics around not only recovery growth, but also community engagement, public attitudes and social distance and the implications for the prevention and early intervention agendas. This is a model that will allow us to build a community-centred and recovery-oriented model of prevention and early intervention based on citizenship and active community participation and bring together a coherent model of public health and community-based approaches to tackling problematic substance use through strengths-based and whole-city approaches." Did you know that people with intellectual disability are 2-3 times more likely to experience mental illness than people without disability? When any of us find ourselves under pressure and facing stress, we look for ways to manage this stress. Sometimes, the strategies that work best for a person with Down syndrome can look a bit different to the ways most people manage stress, but the two common strategies are: 🗣 using audible self-talk, which helps with problem solving and processing of events and feelings; and ▶ familiar routines, which helps to relax and supports people to communicate. If a person with Down syndrome is struggling with their mental health, the same process applies as for people without Down syndrome: seek advice from health professionals and seek out the recommended health interventions available (e.g. counselling, medication, support groups, etc). Reflecting on the profound significance of community for those in recovery from substance use disorder. In the journey towards healing, community becomes a cornerstone, offering understanding, support, and a shared sense of purpose. Connection combats isolation, creates resilience, and provides a safe space for growth. Together, we strengthen the foundation of recovery, acknowledging that community is not just valuable—it's indispensable. The reading "Paving Pathways to Recovery for All" by Terrence Walton sheds light on crucial inclusive recovery issues. Walton emphasizes the necessity of dismantling stigma and fostering genuine support for individuals on the recovery journey. It is a powerful call to action for societal transformation, urging us to champion principles that break down barriers and ensure accessible recovery for everyone. So far, I have donated my time as a mental health professional to host two peer support groups for people in the diaspora who are grappling with the atrocities happening around the world. Over 100 people (whose families are from all over the world) joined. Here are 10 things that have come up repeatedly in these groups: 1. Cognitive dissonance and an expectation to go on as normal when things are very much not normal. 2. A very real fear of consequences -- like losing your job or professional opportunities -- by speaking up or being vocal. For some, they did lose their jobs/work. 3. A loss of friends/relationships and an overwhelming disappointment and rage of those you may have trusted or looked up to who have been silent/are being silent, or are unable to have healthy conversations about this. 4. Discomfort with certain emotions like anger – and a need to unpack our own narratives and conditioning around this emotion 5. A surfacing of generational trauma and the struggle to hold one's privilege alongside with your ancestral experiences. 6 and 7. Two types of guilt. A general survivor's and thriver's guilt for the privileges you have that others don't. And "guilt by proxy" for what people in your community have done or said (even though this doesn’t represent you or your personal values). 8. A sense of needing to constantly defend one’s perspective, beliefs, or feelings about the atrocities happening in the world, especially because of the "whataboutism" retort. 9. Disenfranchised grief because your feelings or community/personal losses are not being acknowledged or validated by your Western counterparts. 10. Immediate relief for being able to process with others who look or share in similar experiences, and a general need to co-regulate with peers. If you felt this, I am hosting another peer support group TODAY -- Thursday, Nov. 30 at 7pm ET. Visit https://lnkd.in/gwZhjN8Y to register.
Welcome! You are invited to join a meeting: Peer Support for BGT Community. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email about joining the meeting.
